differences in 2x4 and 4x4 nv4500?

what is the difference in the 2x4 and 4x4 nv4500 trannys? The vehicle that this is going in is a 2x4 but I found a 4x4 nv4500 for a really good price and I am wondering the difference between the two and the difficulty/parts involved in taking an originally 4x4 and making it 2x4. Is the differences just in the tail shaft? and can this be easily removed?

I "think" it's just the tailshaft. Can you get them side by side and compare? Also check the output shaft splines.
