This plug comes out of my wiring harness right next to my very front valve cover and I can't figure out where it goes...anyone know

Hmm it looks like it supposed to go down the side of the engine near the injector pump??.
I'm only guessing, someone else who knows might chime in.

I was thinking the same but I was looking around the motor aunt it looks like for a sensor. Don't know which one though

I'm don't know to much about the 12v engines but do they have a cam sensor or something like that?.

There should be a small black magnet clipped onto that. It sticks to the intake plenum. I believe it might control when the grid heater turns on and off, but not entirely sure.

Clipped to a magnet:hehe::rof:S: That is hilarious!!! I have one just like it that is hooked to nothing, only it has a nice little cover over it from the factory. I don't know for sure, but my guess is it would be connected to a TPS if I had an automatic trans.

BTW OP, a signature with your truck info would sure be helpful.

I don't see a magnet...unsure of what an intake plenum is but I think it's a sensor or switch like you said to something

Select User CP from the black tool bar. On the left side is "Settings & Options" Click on "Edit Signature". Type in the info then click on "Save Signature" at the bottom.

Mine is capped off. In my book it looks like it may have been used in later models for a cam sensor or part of a primitive EGR system. Maybe something for CA emissions (My truck came from CT). According to the wiring diagrams I looked at it may be a lead to an auto shutdown relay not applicable to diesel.

Makes sence...thanks for the input glad to know it won't effect how it runs

Doing the KDP and took a pic of my front end. The plug dangling is for the crank position sensor. I have the 47RH.

There is no way I would post a picture of my engine if it looked like that. How do you work on that nasty thing?

Its already been mentioned as a possibility but pretty sure thats for an EGR vacuum solenoid. On EGR equipped engines the EGR solenoid is mounted beside cylinder #1 valve cover on LH side

These are the wire colors for the EGR solenoid
grey/yellow & light green/black (late) or dark green/orange (early)

I believe the mystery is solved. Mine are Gray/yellow and green/black, and thankfully, not a CA model..

^^^Gee Mr. Ames, not everyone has the time to wax thier valve covers like we do.

#30 ·
LOL, but a can of engine gunk every once in awhile wouldn't be much trouble.

#32 ·
First off I just took the front off 2 days ago and have not cleaned it off yet. I have my tooth brush and Gunk cleaner at the ready and I promise it will look a lot cleaner when the KDP is complete :) Additionally, I will post a pic for judging when complete. As for the orange covers, the owner before me was an orange junky. You should see the color of the body!

^^^Ahem, Mr. Ames, methinks its your turn..........lol

OK, here goes. I understand there are a lot of nasty greasy Cummins engines out there, in fact I just bought one from a guy in CO. The first thing I did when I got home was to load it onto a trailer with a mesh deck and take it to the carwash. If you go back and read my post I said "There is no way I would post a picture of my engine if it looked like that." You have my permission to call it vanity.

Good post! I myself, call it pride in my equipment.

I recently returned from a month on the road, 16,000 miles. Here's mine.
