The OP have you looked at RevMax converters? They are a vendor and his prices are extemely good along with excellent customer service. A couple 3rd gen guys running his tq converter/valve body are making 700-950hp..

The failure analysis report shows for the given application the shaft was too hard, there was no necking on the shaft to show that it was over powered, the shaft failed due to shock forces on a material that's too hard. I don't have any stock 47RE shafts to test but I've heard 4140. Most billet input shafts are 4340 modified or 300M (basically the same material) that are heat treated in the neighborhood of 51-54.

Back to the topic, I had better luck with the triple disk converter from ATS, it held the power just fine and didn't lock nearly as hard as the 5 disk. IMHO the 5 disk is over kill unless if you plan on sled pulling.

I have one in my '98 along with the ATS stage 3 tranny. Only complaint I have is the shift from 1st to 2nd tries to break my neck, unless im hard into the skinny pedal. Also have the Power Command lock up with it, great feature to have!

I'm happy with my 5 star. Pretty much the same as everybody's saying, locks firm not stupid hard, awesome warranty 5 yr 500k. Like their ads say this is the only torque converter to hold a patent, they must be doing something right.
