1997 Fuel solenoid melted Help!!

Started my 97 dodge cummins (108,000 miles) and it didn't sound right? Sounded like the fan clutch was engaged but had been sitting a long time (6 hrs ) hearing a whining noise that was getting slower. After about 2 minutes try to turn key off and engine kept running. Now, I am watching my fuel solenoid starting to melt and after a couple more minutes it shut off on it's own with key still in the run position. So, now do I just replace solenoid or/and starter as well? OEM solenoid over $400 Cummins Northwest -Napa $91...Anyone using the Napa part ( cheaper ) ?

Thank you

I am using the napa solenoid on my 95 and it is working fine. I had the solenoid meltdown issue because the starter was still engaged and back feeding the solenoid. Replaced the starter contacts with Larry B's contacts and diode to prevent this from burning my new solenoid. Not sure if this is an issue on your 97 but it was a problem on 95.
