Starter bind

I just dropped a 98 12v into an 03 f250 in front of a nv5600 and fired it off with no issues with a brand new starter. The engine and trans had to be moved slightly for alignment purposes and now no matter how I shim or adjust the starter it is so bound up it won't even turn the motor over and it locks down the entire drivetrain. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Was the engine, starter and transmission a unit when you got it? Or is everything pieced from different places?

The adapter plate for the NV5600 is different than that for the NV4500/automatic transmissions. The early ones employed a spacer, the later version was made with a thicker mounting plate. I thought a had a picture of them side by side but can't find it. Have you measured the flywheel spacing? This is what it should be. On another track, if you didn't use an adequate starter, i.e. Mopar or Denso, made for a 12 valve the one you have may have failed.

They were a unit. And it worked before moving the transmission and engine around.

Was the starter removed at anytime? Maybe it got bumped hard at one point of the install and it's not straight.

I've removed it and replaced it about 20 times and no matter how it's installed it binds the entire drivetrain lol

Have you tried removing the starter and then turning the engine over with a barring tool to see if it binds?
