Stiff pedal on startup

My 97 has a #10 plate slid 3/4 of the way up with 5◊12 injectors. Truck was running a little but smokier than I like so I turned the star wheel back a little bit (it was full fwd) and also backed out the smoke screw a little (it was turned all the way in). Truck runs great now except when I start it the throttle is super stiff. I've always had to give it a tiny bit of throttle when starting it. After it's running I dont notice the pedal being stiff. Any ideas?

Never been in a 12v that doesn't do this. Hard to push the peddle, then it just gives. Or start it and it's fine.

I think it has to do with the AFC arm sticking to the guide it slides on. Once you unstick it, oil coats it and eliminates this problem until you leave it sit for a while. Then it all starts over again.
That is my working theory. No proof of that.

Mine is the same way, stiff pedal until you hit the starter. The moment it starts cranking the pedal gives and the engine fires up.

Glad to know it's not just me. I can live with it. Was just wondering because it was smooth as butter until I messed with the star wheel and smoke screw. Runs much cleaner now so all is good. Thanks!
