Hidden tips - what to check

Good morning and thanx for the ad !
I am interested to buy the front part of a cutted truck from the Customs office. The truck is a 2nd gen 2wd with 4 auto trans so i will keep the engine/trans for a future swap...here in europe isn't very easy to find a 5.9L 12v !
The truck is cutted as i said, was sitting for 4-5 years, the engine is without batteries so i haven't the opportunitty to start it and hear it, or check it maybe for blowby. The engine has only 100.000 kilometres and it looks ok except a little rust. I suppose that i can check externally the timing gear housing for any crack or oil leak caused from the KDP...anything else?! Your advices please 😎

Also i finally noticed that there was probably a short circuit on the dashboard, behind the steering wheel where the key is located, and everything was melted. Any ideas from where this malfunction came from? I will need to replace the key or the problem was the wiring harness, or something bigger?

There are no "hidden tips". Everything you need to know has been discussed ad nauseum, the research is up to you. We have no way of knowing what shorted out. Get a factory service manual, open up the wire diagrams and look for the colored wires that are melted.
