94 4x4 Auto Stalling When Put Into Gear When Not Warmed Up

94 4x4 Auto ran perfect until one day had to use the 4x4. Then about 15 minutes of driving I came to a stop and the truck starts surging and wanting to die at the light. 5 minutes later the truck actually started to die. I figured it was the TC staying locked in killing the truck. Fast forward to a few weeks later ive replaced the lift pump and the fuel shut off solenoid and turned up the idle a little to where its about 850 rpms. Issue is before I had all these issues the truck ran perfectly with no issues now it wants to die if the truck isn't warmed up warmed up! TC doesn't feel locked up anymore and truck drives normal when warmed up. (no shifting issues or OD issues). Fuel filter is pretty new I haven't replaced the heater bowl screen yet and it has a goerend single disk in it that's almost new. Where should I start? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Yes but I've ran a couple of tanks since all of this happened! I run diesel Kleen every tank. No idea on the stall but I can give you a part number?

I'd change the filter again and dump the contents into a clean container to see if there's water in it.

If your torque converter was staying locked in you'd know it if you was to run it hard, the shifts would set you back in your seat

What's the idle in gear with AC on? 850?

If so, next time it starts dying throw a couple gallons of cold water on the IP. If the engine clears up then it's time to start thinking about an IP.

Idle in gear, AC on=750rpms

Once warm, in neutral or park, it will be just below 1000rpms.

Try the cold water trick next. The early 160 pumps have an issue chewing up barrels & plungers after XXXX amount of heat cycles. It's the easiest thing to check off right now before you start doing further diagnostics.

Ended up changing the lift pump, while I was there I figured I'd change my pre screen and looky here! Runs like a brand new truck again!

Could have saved $100 and a few hours by checking the screen first. You even mentioned it in your first post.

Edit; Aggie, that explains it.
