12v Cummins exhaust smoke hot/cold idle

12v with a p pump. 5x.012 power driven diesel injectors and his .055 delivery valves, timing was set to 18 degrees. Rechecked timing today and it looked like it slipped to 20.5 degrees. Is that normal for it to slip and add timing? I thought they pulled timing when they slipped?

I’m getting a white smoke out of the exhaust cold and hot idle. Soon as you accelerate and get into 1-5 psi of boost on a normal take off it does away. Fresh head gasket and studs. Doesn’t use coolant or oil. It runs really good but I’m wondering if someone can help me with the smoke issue? Brand new 364 turbo also.

It is highly unlikely that it slipped higher unless the gear did just short of a full revolution. I suggest you check it again.

Something strange going on with this. Any more information available?
Did you do the work?
When the delivery valves get done, it is a good time to bench the pump, was that done?

I did do the work. And I figured out when I rechecked the timing I didn’t apply for back lash like when I originally set the timing up according to power driven instructions.

I did not bench the pump. I left the pump on the truck and swapped the injectors/delivery valves at the same time. It ran very good after that and I didn’t notice any hazing. About 2 weeks later I bumped the timing from 12.5 to 18. It slipped the same day and started pouring white smoke out of the exhaust. Got it home thankfully and retimed it to 18 with a better method and a new washer and it’s been great ever since. Except the hazing at idle.

That haze is wasted fuel, and that is what other than stock DVs are famous for. The first guy that I know of that pushed a 12 valve to 800hp many years ago tried different DVs and ended up using the stock ones in his 215 pump.

I guess it’s worth the little bit of time swapping back to the stock dv’s. I’d rather lose power and it be more efficient and run clean. It draws attention with the haze by the unaware and someone thought it was broken cause of that lol.

Do we know where the 055 PDD DV’s Stand compared to the 131’s, 181’s, 191’s, and the laser cuts? Can’t seem to find any info on them

I'm pretty sure that Dauntless89 wrote a post about them not too long ago.
