Is ATF2 ok for 96 5.9 auto tran.

I always use ATF plus 4 tranny fluid.

My truck went in the shop for a couple of days the shop fixed a nice air leak in my fuel system got it running perfect , but due to a leak from a loose screw, my transmission was down several quarts and slipping.

The shop looked at my dipstick and it said ATF 2 on it so they thought that's what you put in.

My original dipstick broke a couple years ago and I had to buy another one.

Is ATF 2, okay to mix with my ATF 4???

It's seems to run real good

Hey got your PM and tried to reply, not sure if your inbox is full or my phone is just being stupid but I donít think it will let me reply.

You should be just fine a dodge trans is really not picky with atf you can put really any kind in it. I would say if it drives just fine then donít worry about it. ATF+4 is the proper fluid to use but shouldnít have a trouble mixing with ATF2 or whatever they put in.

Atf +2 orDextron 3 is the correct fluid. Atf +4 shifts softer if that's what your looking for .

Atf 3/4 replaced Atf 2

Thatís true, atf +2 was what was used when the trucks were made new. I believe +4 is thinner viscosity so that explains soft shifts.

Atf+2 has not been produced for a while I believe so still not sure what the shop put in maybe it was dex 3?
