Center Support / Carrier Bearing size

I tried searching and couldn't find answer.

What size is the center driveshaft support bearing? I see 35 (1.378") and 40 mm (1.5748") listed. I have a '96 2500 HD

Is there a way to tell without removing it? I want to have it on hand to minimize downtime. Thanks!

On a '93, its the bigger bearing. I suspect all cummins trucks use the big one.

I replaced my 1995 ram 3500 4x4 club cab bearing a couple years back.

Mine was Dana part # 2118481X

1.574" ID

I would double check yours though.

Thanks. I'm thinking it's the larger 40 mm bearing as well.

Sometimes the 40 mm in listed as "with DANA axle",

And it looks like the 35 mm has mounting tabs on the outside with screws going upward. The 40 mm has screws going into the body from above. My truck has that second style of mounting.

Timken is part # HB88108D. Autozone has the same part number, but under their own brand for less. I might go take a look and see if they are the same.

My truck used the 40 mm.

And the Autozone part was made by Timken in a Timken box. Nice when the local store is cheapest.

Cut the old one off, used a 12" piece of 1˝" pipe to pound the new one on. Install the bearing and bell shaped oil slinger together.
