67/71/16 is in!

Finished the install today, got to fix an oil leak and exhaust leak but I did get to take it for a spin . Putting around town its strangely quiet almost eerie how quiet it is but when you mash it you cant hear anything but the whistle, its LOUD.

Driving normally it makes about 5lbs putting around in 3rd. With zero tuning I romped it a few times in second and it starts building boost at about 17-1800 pukes a huge cloud and the boost gauge whips around. In second gear at 2500 it pulled to 50psi in a very short burst and it pulled hard. I still have stock timing so i cant wait to bump it up about 6* and some tuning should turn the wick up a bit

So what exactly is your turbo and what did it come from? I believe you said it was in HX52 or something in another thread? What was involved in putting it on and how much you have in it? PM me on cost if you'd like. Seems like it might be a good budget turbo unless i missed something.

Undrgrnd- u got a pm

Im the king of budget, I'm in school and have a race boat addiction to fulfill. This turbo was my choice for dollar per hp. It is the dreaded hx52, what i found doing research is everyone that talked on it never ran one.

I was expecting it to be a project but it was a lot more work to make it fit than i expected. I still have a temporary manifold right now (stocker with a flange welded to it) until I can afford a 3 piece t4 to up flow. The down pipe is done and looks awesome thanks to my brother welding it up real quick. The charge pipe is done and used the stock elbow from the hx35 thanks to a pointer from a guy who ran and loved his hx52 and made 600+ on it (jake the snake I think). I will get some pics of my setup with my sparkling wiggles manifold and new 4in down pipe (leaking) etc.. It is doable with most of ur typical tools but as any new design needs tweaking after the first couple beatings.

I also just remembered that my AFC housing is slid 3/4 of the way back cause i couldnt tow with the hx35 and that much pre-boost fueling (even with the screw off the diaphragm). So i have a few MM of rack travel that i havent even tapped into yet, not including the mack plug thats not in yet.

Timing up from stock another 7*, afc moved full forward, rack plug installed, 10 hrs attempting to tune it and a 10psi 4x4 launch ought to earn me a duramax=tampons sticker

mocked up

my brother, Beef layin some weld on the down pipe i couldnt get out of the truck so he was in some interesting positions but got it done

Some people blow their head gaskets at 35psi... I didn't mean it in a bad way or anything either if you took it that way?

Yea but 14* is supposedly max for stock head bolts.

There are guys on here with tens of thousands of miles running 50 psi on stock head bolts and gasket for years. It depends on the truck and initial condition of the head gasket.

I retorqued my stock bolts but im getting stronger bolts before i take it and really beat on it.

Ohh gotcha, I didn't know you had already torqued down the stockers. Yeah I push 50+psi through my retorqued head bolts and 18* pretty much everyday. The key to it is letting the truck warm up before dogging on the motor.

Should be a fun little truck once you get it all tuned!
