727 won't pull

Ok guys I got my truck home finally. The transmission was rebuilt around 5000 miles ago. I can put it in gear and feel it engage but it won't really move out of it's tracks. This happens in all gears including reverse. I know it's engaging because it will roll the truck a couple of inches and that's it. What could be the problem?

bad valve body, bad torque converter , clutch packs etc.. alota things go wrong with automatics that can cause the result your describing how was it driving the last 5,000 miles? what happened leading up to it not working? then there is always my favorite the tranny that was "rebuilt" without ever opening it up but simply pressure washing it off and selling it as rebuilt....

I bought it off a friend so I know it was rebuilt. He said it started taking off in high gear and would shift down if you used the shifter. Then it just wouldn't move one day. It still engages and will try to move but that's it.

sounds like either a warped valve body or whoever did the rebuild didn't know what they were doing and screwed up some check balls etc.. if it was taking off in high gear needing a manual down shift then fluide was being routed to the wrong ports its current condition would indicate that it no longer is building enough hydraulic pressure to fully engage.. ie; a warped valve body, if it was rebuilt by a reputable shop and not some shadetree "rebuilder" or someone who stayed at a motel 6 and read an internet post on rebuilding auto trannys then I'd contact that reputable shop as it only has 5k miles on it and ask them WTH they did to it... shadtree mechs generally don't have the test equipment to check a valve body so just re-install it assuming its fine which leads to situations you are describing a real tranny shop will verify the valve body is true and holds pressure as standard step in rebuilding the tranny..., a bad pump will cause what your describing as the current condition as well but it would not account for the previous condition of taking off in 3rd gear etc..
