Scuff plate solution?

Has anyone figured out how to protect this area from removing paint from stepping on it time after time?

I plan on painting my truck soon and want to avoid it looking like this. Thanks.

A old square body Chevy truck I had I bought some aluminum plates that were made for there, I would think that they are still available.

Here I found a Google search for them, i'll let you look and see if you can find any for the Dodges.

Iíve seen people put skateboard grip tape there, protects the paint and keeps your foot from slipping when wet.
