Nv5600 swap

I'm planning to start my crew cab build pretty soon, going to run an nv5600 4wd and wanted some input on fitment. I would like to do minimal modifications to the tunnel and am wondering if I could make a custom 1 -2 inch body lift instead. Want to go with as little lift as possible to get the clearance needed.

Have you searched the archives?? There is plenty of info out there, on this site and many of the other 1st gen forums, or just a google search away. Grab some snacks, and your favorite beverage and sit down for a few hours of reading.

I have searched but may not be using the right terms. All I can find are "will it work" haven't been able to find many completions.

Either this thread or one of his others details an NV5600 swap extremely well. You are on your own for finding it.

I have read that thread a couple of times and he did some modifications to the tunnel which is why I was wondering if the small body lift would eliminate the need for that. I found another thread and they only mention cutting the shifter hole so it may work. Mainly just wanted opinions on if the body lift would be a good solution or not.

If your crewcab build is happening on any non-crewcab frame... anything you add in the way of a body lift will reduce the amount you need to cut/channel the rear cab floor.

I plan to do 1-2" body lift just for improving working clearances under the truck. Cummins powertrain makes everything a tight fit. A flatbed doesn't care about body lines matching up.

You can do it through a body lift. But then things like the clutch hydraulics will become too short. So go just enough and no more. In the case of my crew, I have a 1" lift and still had some tunnel to cut. The 1990 had no body lift and had a fair bit of tunnel cut.

Hope that helps!

No flatbed for this one. I am doing a body swap but its onto a factory 4wd crew. That does help a lot. Did you just use a universal lift or custom.

I made my own. You will see pics of the spacers in the Crew Cab build thread.

I think I would just cut the tunnel if it were me. I think it would cut down on the total number of things you have to change, and you could make a nice removable panel to make servicing things easier in the future.
