I,ve never seen that happen, those backing plates are pretty thick so you shouldn't have a problem welding.

Hmm methinks he's missing the rubber end of the cable. IIRC theres a molded grommet on the end of the cable to cover the hole. BTW the hole looks ok (yes i was thinking of just a round hole before)

New cables are availible.

92 d250 le creampuff, rc auto and stone stock.

No, but easily fixed if you know how to weld, won't take but a couple hours to fix that and make like new again.
