93 steering box brace.

I have a crack in the frame at the steering box mount plate on the 93. Is it better to weld the crack then brace it or just put a brace on. From what I read the heat from the welding will alter the condition of the metal. Is there anyone still making recreations of the brace? Cross over steering is not an option at the moment.

I bought a brace that goes on the inside of the frame made for a little red express, new for like 30 bucks...sorry I can't remember where I got it though.

if you have the frame horn striped for welding I would box that part of the frame, I think they need it.

Doesn't Jungle Jim over on RCC make a boxing kit?

I got my RC frame brace off E-bay. Lucked out when it showed up late one night. Tuff to find since the company that was reproducing them has not made another run on them.

Think hard it would help out. The whole front of the truck is stripped down at the moment.

This is my e-mail to dodgeconnection.com about the steering brace they have on their online store. If there is enough demand they may bring them back unfortunately this design is under copyright. Their email is [email protected]

Hello my name is Trevor I'm up in Vernon CT. I and many other first gen owners are still looking for these braces. I see they are discontinued is there any way to still get them? Is there a minimum number of orders you would need to make this feasible for you?

Thank you,
Trevor B.

Response:
Trevor,
We are working on having them reproduced. I'll put your name on the list to be contacted once they are done. Hope to have a date from them soon.
Thank you
Kim

I have my name on that list too. I received the same basic response a couple years ago.

I had the same the issue about 2 months ago with my 93 frame bracket. the bracket cracked, when i took it off i found the forward most hole was cracked all around. i drilled a small hole at the base of the crack then filled it all with a heavy weld. i then cut a piece of 3/8" steel plate to brace between the front and bottom 2 holes on the backside of the frame. I didnt have the time or tools to do the full box, but i think this helped some. here is what it looks like. used all new grade 8 hardware as well. couldnt make it connect to the third hole as there is a hump in the frame between the two. i figure it made it 225K on the first one, should make it another 225K with this.
