Belt, idler/tensioner bearing, or other noise

I'm going to try to get it into a dealer tomorrow, but if they can't get it fixed by Friday, I won't be able to do anything about it for at least a month unless it significantly worsens and requires changing travel plans.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue, or if I'm mistaking the noise for something it is not. I just noticed the squeak a couple days ago, but that doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't there before. I believe it's new, or at least, louder than it was before.

On that note, I also have a squeak in the front end of the truck on rough surfaces that sounds like metal on metal/ poor chassis lubrication and my dash sometimes thinks the E-brake is on when it is fully disengaged. A couple more things I'll be bothering the dealer with when I take it in at just over 2,900mi.

Audio proof that I am deaf.

Heard the sound of an injector pump and the motor. Nothing unusual.

It's definitely there, but perhaps not nearly as obvious in the video as in person.

I started up the truck today, when it was dry out, and no noise. After it started raining again, the noise came back. I'm going to guess it's belt slippage when wet, and the belt is getting wet from water being splashed up while driving. The noise started around the same day the rain came in.

I'm going deaf too but the squeak is definitely there. It also appears to be in sinc with the belt.

Good that someone else can hear it. I never did get it in - the dealers in the area were all booked up, and I had a 500mi drive with my 5'er scheduled for the weekend. The nearest dealer from me now is a few hours away, so I probably won't be able to get it in until next month. It seems to always be present, but much worse when it's wet, so hopefully a belt issue rather than something more significant like a bearing or faulty belt-driven accessory.

I havenít noticed it on mine yet, but I have a hair under 200 miles on the truck.

That said, itís funny how when you make it quieter you start hearing new noises. Youíd never have heard that on the older 6.7s.

I can hear it but not sure it is a bearing. Maybe just a squeaky belt. Get a bar of soap or some spray belt lubricant and put some on the both sides of the belt while running. That will quiet it if it is just a squeaky belt.

I ended up spraying some belt conditioner on it as a quick fix, and it sounds much better. I'm staying outside of Terlingua, TX this month, which is about two and a half hours from the nearest dealer. I'll drop it by a dealer next month with a few small items to look at, this making it onto the list.

Whelp. Up in KS for thanksgiving. Just a touch over 1000 miles on the truck. Remote started it in the sleet storm. Went out to the truck and it’s making the same noise in the video above. Sounds belt/tensioner related to me. And I retract my previous statement. This would be heard over the old 6.7 clatter.

I’ll let you know if it track it down. Please do the same if you figure it out.

Update on mine. Got it back today-new belt. Said the original was stretched out.

Squeak is gone for now.

Belts stretched out on brand new trucks? I doubt that is the whole story/fix.

Taking mine in next week, I hope. Finally within decent range of a dealer.
