68rfe cracked case COMMON?

So I was online looking for service information on my 68rfe and came across ATS diesels transmission case brace. After watching the youtube video, its got me convinced i've been living under a rock and had no idea about our cases being prone to cracking...

Sooo, have I been living under a rock and its a potential likely problem and a brace would be good on a lifted truck? OR is it snake oil and not to worry?

Ive also read that U-joints going out will crack them. I plan on a transmission service soon with a deeper pan, upgraded filter coupler, as well as fixing a leaky seal.... If the brace isn't snake oil, ill consider it...

Marketing 101! If you're making enough BHP, you can break/crack the case.
It comes from abusive behavior with high BHP and built trans internals.

My nephew broke his 2008 1 ton 68RFE because he has 700 plus BHP
and drives like a knucklehead. Anything can be broken if you try hard enough.
An external brace is a great marketing item, but it's like trying to fix a water leak
from the outside of the pool.

Maybe you could try some Flex Seal and hope for the best

Go for the brace.

Should go well with the Nittos, Fusions, and Mag Hytecs.

You and N of 60 are just soooo constructive around here. It was a simple question, sarcasm wasn't asked for...

Oh dear. I was just trying to save you some hard earned $.

I'll try again -

" Your (cast aluminum, hopefully) deep pan should stiffen up the case a bit.

Look to sloppy shaft splines and/or bad u-joints as well".

Better?

Yes. The cover on the case is stock. Reason for the post was I came across the video and was perplexed as I havenít seen a case break. It seems like snake oil but I figured I would gather other opinions as well...

Ive been on this forum for over 10 years. Im not so "sensitive." I just find it obnoxious that new guys come on here with no knowledge and they look to us for help. Just like we did when we got into this side of things.

Now when people get on here because they have no idea what they need or want, we belittle and point fingers, make sly comments and say USE THE SEARCH FEATURE...

This forum never used to be this way. It saddens me how active it is now days. Years ago this thing was rolling 24/7 with people posting all hours of the night..

This forum now seems much slower than some of the other ones out there. Which stinks because this is my go to forum. The only thing I can attribute it to is the tone of some of these responses and these guys with 2 or 3 posts that never come back. Who would want to stay on a forum where you come for help, and get slammed?

Case-in-point this post. I had no knowledge previously of a 68fre case cracking, so I did what I always do. Posted about it because I genuinely had NO idea... and instead of talking about truth in the matter, this thread derailed hard because of obnoxious attitudes...

I do a lot of tech support for transmission shops, all types of calls. The 68RFE is a common issue with cracked cases. Most common issues are u-joints and abuse. I personally have not used the brace but have heard mixes reviews. My good friend has one and swears by it because he had 2 case crack. After the brace no issues but he also replace front drive shaft at the same time.
