Troubles not retuning after swap?

Hey Y'all.

I am in the middle of swapping out my stock VGT Holset for a s300 turbo.

If I were to swap it out keeping the truck around the same power, would I have major troubles if I don't retune immediately? I do not know if the VGT settings were shut off by the previous owner.

The truck is a 2011 6.7 3500 automatic. It has a H&S mini maxx which obviously is no longer in business and the screen is black.

Before I go into buying a new tuner/tunes would I be alright to drive my truck for a while?

Thank you for any input.

The truck will probably be a slug at lower RPMs. The VGT tuning is designed to spool the turbo by closing the nozzle. This will make it hard to spool the new turbo down low. Once you get up to higher RPMs, it probably won't be as bad but I would not expect it to perform the same.

I would be more concerned with driving it around if the Mini Maxx is not communicating on start up with the ECM anymore and has reverted back to stock fueling and timing is at 2 or greater. Nothing with swapping turbos will hurt anything.

Thanks for the reply. I drove it home from a shop which is only about a mile and you're definitely right, Really sluggish down low. Never went fast enough to feel the top end. Would this be helped with the right tunes?

That's a little terrifying, i drove the truck about a mile and it's sluggish. I'm not moving it again until I'm retuning it. Thanks.

You sound knowledgeable on tuning do you have any opinions of where to go with it? Do I need a screen or can I get something like a chip? Thank you for any help.
