Aux tanks voids warranty

So I took my truck a 2015 3500 CTD with the 68rfe with 78k miles that is completely stock other then a transfer tank to the dealer for an odd knocking sound. Zero other issues.

I have now been told it needs a complete fuel system tank to injectors due to metal shavings in the fuel.

The transfer tank is plumped through a 2 micron CAT filter before it hits the factory tank and both factory fuel filters are still in place.

They are denying the warranty based on the fuel system has been modified and are suggesting i contact my insurance company to file a claim.

I'm hoping someone here has some advice.

Thanks.

I'd ask the dealer why the trucks come with fuel filters if they apparently arent going to stop metal shavings from leaving the fuel tank and reaching the injectors. So many things wrong with their bonehead response...

I agree with both of the previous 2 statements. the dealer is looking for an out. the factory fuel system is not modified, only supplemented with an additional fuel system. How long have you had the aux tank installed?

2018 Ram 3500 Limited - Crew Cab Long Box 4x4 SRW Stock at the moment, but that will change

I would research: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/article...ne-maintenance

My understanding is a dealer would have to prove what you did caused the need for repairs. Iím not a lawyer; but if expensive enough maybe a lawyer would have to get involved. If your aux tank fed directly to engine and bypassed the factory system of filters, etc. but if aux tank feeds into factory tank then no way they could prove fuel from one tank into factory tank caused it. Thatís like saying fuel from pump would void warranty.

That is all a line of crap from a thief. They did not even diagnose your complaint. PS, bad injectors are a common issues on 6,7L. Was it an engine knock or chassis knock?
Did they show you these metal shavings?, no they made it up.

Also who and where did the aux tank?

Where are you?
Try a different dealer or Chrysler FCA Customer Service or the local service rep for FCA.
Then call the State Department of Consumer Affairs, for Automotive repair. In CA they have the number posted on the wall in the service department.

Like others have said they must prove that it directly caused a failure. However pretty much across the board fuel contamination (not saying thats what happened) is not covered by any warranty i know of. Did they provide a sample of the shavings? Fuel? Any rust covered parts from the cp3, rail or drop the tank and show that there was anything?

You should add a cheap inline filter from the tank to the truck. You may be surprised what it catches.
