I do respect your choice to rebuild if you choose to do so though. I do have a question or two. Being completely stock, or other than being deleted, what were the condition when the valve decided to float? Seems wild for that to happen on relatively low mile stock motor. Also, I assume there is just damage at one cylinder location? And finally, do you plan on rebuilding with stock material? Or some stonger components to prevent this from happening again?

if I decide to rebuild over replacement it will all go back together stock with all new valve springs and retainers and with the fm thrust brg. I can buy a takeout for about 7k but then I don't really know what I have, I have thought about doing egr delete and program but then I might just sell this and keep the 04 5.9 better mileage and no epa crap

If it was stock, they would take care of it being only 4K over.

It never hurts to ask the dealer if Ram would extend good will assistance. May have part or all of it covered.

pulled the engine out, tore it down; was amazed at the lack of wear in cyls, on piston skirts etc, brgs looked like new,com and followers were in great cond. took injectors to Thompson diesel in Tulsa, the 5 inj that weren't trashed were overfueling as the impulses were running together[the dits became dahs]. they gave me a good price on new bosch injectors and a new updated holset turbo. oh well happens and if your feeling down look around at the much less fortunate people

I just bought a complete 2011 6.7 engine for 4500 with 56K. I drove the truck for about a thousand miles before I pulled the engine so I know its good. The truck was totaled for flood damage but no water got to engine. low mileage 6.7s can be bought for 4500-5500

2006 3500 megacab 6sp 4wd w/2011 6.7 swap, arp head studs 2nd gen exhaust w/ fleece s463 turbo gdp grid delete w/s-3 horn, amsoil remote oil bypass filter system, homemade remote dual fuel filter/water seperator. 5" turbo back exh. ATP EFI live

What's going on here? Almost the exact same thing just happened to my brother. Also a 2011 bone stock. A valve broke a piece got into the cylinder and basically ruined it. He was quoted $10-12,000 to fix by the diesel shop he took it too. What would cause this to happen on a stock truck with under 150,000 miles. He's had nothing but trouble with this 6.7. Says he wishes he never would've sold his reliable 05.

took block to okla city broadway mach because that is where local cummins sends theirs for rework so it will get vatted, m'fluxed, all surfaces checked, pressure checked and one sleeve for less than $500.00 all told this will be between 8-9k I think I will wrap up the new turbo and injectors, put them under the tree for wife, I know she will be overjoyed.

update: pulled the injectors off the shelf and was looking at the failing parameters of the old injectors and noticed they were 06 -9.6 then got out a new injector and it was a 06-9.6 but this is a 11 truck, cleaning parts today and after cleaning v/c over found the mopar recon sticker for long block dated 3/12 the engine computer is dated 7/10 so do I return these injectors and get the 2011 models and then get the computer updated or what thanks in advance for any input
