Sxe Turbo for daily! Iron horn/2nd

Welp, will be in 4th gen In a couple weeks, some things came up!! Have 2nd swap on an 08 with s465... alittle laggy. Truck is still in family.

Anyways, with these iron horn kits that sound the same, and offer the same performance and are cheaper, im thinking about going that route. What would you guys recommend for a daily driver/ a lot of city/highway driving, driving to job sites and around town. Won’t really tow but maybe a boat and a piece of equipment here and there in the summer . Stock fuel and auto. Just want a fun street truck, good spooling around town. And can play too lol

Is there really a big difference in the sxe64.5 vs the 63?? Or since I’m not towing jump up to the 66 or 69?

The s465 is a little laggy. Been through multiple tuners and tunes and know how that feels. Forget the s467 lol

The 64.5 is recommended for a do-all turbo on stock fuel. I've had too much turbo in the mtns. And I wanted to be sure it wasn't too big so I used the 363, which is not much smaller than the 64.5. I'm very happy! It was a big hp boost over the vgt so I got it detuned for trans/head stud safety margin. It still runs stronger than the nicely tow modded 5.9s I've had. Read more before deciding. Some guys use the 366 w/o added fuel. As you know... Too big isn't much fun. Craig

Thanks for the help. I’m really looking at those two hard. Luckily I don’t have to worry about elevation here in Georgia.

How’s the top on the 63? That big of a jump in power huh!?

If the sxe66 or 69 spools and flows better than s400 series, how are on a daily setup. The sxe64.5 sounds like it might be for me. Especially in stop and go kind of traffic and highway use.

What is your AR sizing? On a 6.7 in no way shape or form should a 465 or 467 be laggy with proper sizing and tuning on stock fuel.

.91 housing. There’s a good bit of people I’ve seen on here go on the bigger side with the s467 and then rethink everything when its laggy and want to go smaller. I don’t see how those could be peppy and responsive on stock fuel. My truck will live in the lower rpm range

I knw the 08 has the stupid trans tuning which kills the smoothness/forward motion of it going through the gears. It falls on its face lol.

It’s really relative the lag, it doesn’t sound like there is a power goal per say for you is that correct? .91 divided housing will help with spool up relative to 1.0 or an open housing. As mentioned a lot of guys run 400 frames and seen to be happy with the trucks. With that being said a 300 series sxe will spool better relatively speaking and flow extremely well. Sounds like a 369ish or 463 ish depending on tuning.

No trans tuning on this setup? I think it would be advantageous as you could keep the rpms up a bit more for city driving.

Fee free to shoot me a PM/email if you’d like some pricing on chargers or other parts.

Define “spools and flows better”..

My guess is he means the 300 frame will build more boost as lower rpm (spool) than the 400 and since it’s a sxe housing it will flow/have better top end vs a non sxe housing even if it’s a 400 frame vs 300

Thanks for the input! That’s what I mean. I drive like a grandpa, baby the hell out of my truck. Def would like a lot faster spooling truck down low in the lower rpms with the driving I’ll be doing around town. Jumping on the highway for alittle. I’m not someone who lives above 2500 rpm that much lol. The sxe364.5, with some good tuning, how fun can those be!?

Or even the sxe369?

Will def be trans tunninh too.

My 363/80/.91 is much more responsive than the vgt and a healthy power boost. The truck was a blast but it's mainly for towing and I'm getting old and I'm not going to get on another slippery slope of mods for high hp. It was also way faster than a 8400 lb truck needed to be. My lower tq. Tunes still have a little more tq than the 5.9s w/turbos/chips but the top end is substantially stronger then the said 5.9s. It's good for my heavy towing cuz it makes me downshift on big hills and it will go like [email protected] if I floor it, then, and blaze up the hills way faster than the 5.9 could and max egt is <1250. The lower tq. Is an insurance policy for my hard use. Use at least the 364.5/80/.91 for low altitude and the normal hotter tunes. Craig

The 300sxe series sounds like your cup of tea then. I’ve heard some great things about them.

Sounds like a fun truck! Thanks for the input. I think with my low altitude, the 364.5/80/.91 seems to me the move or the 66. Anyone on here with the 66 or 69 wanna chime in!? How the truck drives
