EZLynk Tuner & GDP Tunes - Feedback

I just purchased my delete package from Atlantic Speed and Performance, via EBay. It came with the EZLynk 2.0 tuner and GDP tunes. Anyone had experience and feedback on GDP?

Have you installed it yet? That is the package I have been looking at for my 2013 3500.

I have installed the tuner, got it talking to ECM and connected up to GDP and updated the firmware on the Tuner, but have not downloaded ans installed any tunes yet. I will install my first tune this weekend then do the new exhaust and deletes the same day. Will update as soon as this is done.

Are you using the pipe that came with the kit and air box? If so how did the fit? (I know these will not be fully answered until the weekend)

The kit I ordered just came with the 5" exhaust, deletes kite and the EzLink tuner and access to GDP tunes. I didn't get a new airbox or intake, nor will I. Honestly, unless you are racing your truck, I do not think changing the intake or going to open air intake box makes any difference, that is my experience.

I have GDP tunes.

The only issue I have is black smoke under certain throttle and driving conditions.

Example, when "launching" or accelerating aggressively, it'll smoke. Or, if cruising and then throttling up, it may smoke.

I really hate it when it smokes.

1. Those that know what "black smoke" mean, know when I throttle up. And those drivers will then preemptively drive to limit me. I do not wish other drivers to know when I'm accelerating.

2. Most others see any smoke as a sign of issues. And when my very nice RAM blows smoke, they perceive it as a "hoopty". I do not want to be known as the owner of a "Hoopty".

So in long, my tune smokes.

------------------------- Other issues-------------------

just recalled:

Seems GDP can not disable the grid heater. I have no grid heater, and because the solenoid is removed, I get a check engine light when its cold out. They can't seem to fix that.

The DEF gauge is set to off. I'm not sure if they can enable/disable that gauge per tune. When I repurpose the dEf tank, I'd like the gauge to function.

When I first got the tuner, there seems to be a delay in response time with support techs. The last few times, I got a response within 14 hours or so. That is good.

Couple of questions, HeavyTwo. (1) why did you delete the grid heater, is this not causing issues for you in cold weather? (2) You say you are getting black smoke when accelerating, which GDP tune are you running. Have you tried other GDP tunes?

1. The Grid Heater: When I replaced the turbo, I went ahead and optimized the air flow. Larger boost tubes, larger Charge Air Cooler, larger intake horn, removal of restrictive grid heater, mandrel bent exhaust piping, removal of emissions related exhaust components. Basically, everything to improve airflow from the air filter to the exhaust tip.

Unless you live in a very cold climate, you will be fine with no intake heater. My truck starts just fine when it's cold out. If I recall, I've started it when it was in the 20's.

Finally, there are issues where a bolt on the grid heater milts and falls into the engine. Repairs can be around ~$10,000 to $22,000 if that bolt gets into a cylinder. And, it may not be that much money, but my concern is downtime.

2. On the tune: I have an aftermarket turbo, a non-VGT unit. So the tune needs to be for non-VGT. I also have an exhaust brake that does REQUIRE VGT being enabled. So, kinda a catch 22. It's hard to convince a tuner that you have a NON -VGT turbo, and you NEED VGT enabled. They then correct you and tell you to use TUNE XXX that has VGT disabled, cause you don't have a VGT turbo. Then you have to explain that the exhaust brake controller needs the VGT signals to function. Then, they now assume you have a VGT turbo and instruct you to use a VGT based tune. But that won't work right, cause you don't have a VGT turbo. And round n round we go discussing why it is I need VGT enabled, yet have a non-VGT turbo.

Sooo, I have a "unique" tune that has most the VGT features disabled, except the feature that allows the aftermarket EB to function. I'm using the SOTF tune. I have tried a non SOFT type tune. It's been awhile, I guess I should switch tunes and see if it stops smoking.

Thanks for the info, HeavyTwo. I am about done with my delete. Got the Jamo 5" exhaust/diamond eye muffler on yesterday, fit perfectly, no cutting needed. Also did the EGR/cooler delete. Got got to get intake and batteries connected, will be ready to start it up.
