how to access passenger side vent

As you can see in the photo, the vertical fins that direct air left and right are no longer synchronized because the pins have fallen out of the holes. Each fin has a pin that fits in a hole on an arm that is controlled by the thumb wheel. I think i just need to get all the pins in the holes and raise the arm a bit. Does anyone know how to remove the trim ring and get at the inner workings of the vent?

You have to somehow pop it out around that chrome ring. It should all come out as one piece. I had trouble getting mine out so I pried out the little cubby first then I could get to release tabs a little easier

Thanks! Someone posted a video on another forum that shows what you have suggested. My concern is to not scratch the trim piece. I’ll try using a plastic putty knife or an orange peeler and hope it works!
