Steering angle sensor problem

I had a recall done on my 2012 Laramie on 1-28-19. The recall was for a steering column gearshift bracket. I drove 3 miles home and parked it. I started it today 2-5-19 and the traction control light came on. I went back and was told the error code showed my steering angle sensor was bad and would be approximately $400 in parts and labor. Does anyone know what could have been done to make this code show or mess the sensor up performing that recall. I have a hard time believing they are not related. Truck has 40000 miles and has had no prior issues.

first I would clear the code.. a place like Oreillys auto parts can do that for you.
if the code reappears then have the alignment checked..

unlikely the sensor was bad and just showed up.. but possible...

if it is the sensor, take it to a reputable mechanic and not the stealer if you know of one..

Or Youtube it and replace it yourself..

I doubt it is the sensor.. but you never know..

did they cause this.. possible, depends on the sensor location.. if it is near the part that the dealer replace then.. yes they did it.. but
you may not be able to prove this...

If they pulled the steering wheel they probably broke the clockspring (which houses the sensor). They don't usually just go bad. They break when the wheel is removed and the sensor is clocked correctly when reinstalling. Do your steering wheel controls work? And also, if you have a factory backup camera put it in reverse and see if the lines are straight when the wheel is. They can be 360 deg out and not broken but will throw a traction fault.

Solved

Sorry for tardy response. I spoke to the mechanic and he had to unplug the sensor and plug it back in to do the recall but did not have to pull the steering column. Backup camera lines were correct. I reset code and turned truck in hard circles in parking lot with no further activations as suggested by mechanic to test clockspring. I think the code was set when they unplugged/plugged the sensor. No further problems. Thanks.
