2003 Dodge Ram 2500 No gear indicator light (Halo) for Reverse, Drive, 2 or 1

I own a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 ST 4x4 with a 5.9 SO Cummins, has I believe a 47RE trans. No programer (may have had a programer at one time the only reason I say this is there is a hole in the bezel and has the A pillar gauges ( boost, egt and trans temp). It has a Performance Diesel fuel pump, aftermarket fuel filters, a egr delete and a 4 inch lift kit (at least I think it's 4 inches haven't had the time to document everything yet) bought it a week ago.
So here is my issue I took it to a car wash that did the underspray and my gear indicator light (Halo) that is supposed to go around which gear I'm in, only works in Park or Neutral. When this happens I have no OD and no cruise. 3 days later it started to work right. Then it rained and hasn't worked since I've checked all the under hood connectors and made sure to dialectric grease them all and replace the trs just in case. Also noticed if I leave the key in the on position all the indicators work as the should but if I put the key in the run position only the P and N get the halos. Ican also shift it without the brake being applied when this condition is present. Has anyone had this issue and if so what was the fix? Thank you in advance.

Gear selector switch on trans , drivers side next to metal cooler lines .

Un clip wires , blow out .
They are supposed to be Bad if trans fluid is evident inside connector . But every one ive inspected has fluid in it . Including almost new.

First, the range sensor is just for the shift position on cluster only. It should not affect transmission operation.
If you have no OD then the sensor itself is not the issue.

Second, the ignition switch has three power up positions: RUN(ON)/START/ACC.
So ON is RUN.
Can you rewrite the last sentence?

The TRS switch is super easy to put in a tad crooked . Ive put 3 in in my dodge lifetime , and the last one on my sons 06 gave me a lil fight to keep it in straight AND IF the screws are even a little hard to get in .... its crooked .
Learned this from Cerb , a great guy on here who knows his stuff.
Not saying you did, just something to learn and be aware of .

If "on" is OFF, were the indicators supposed to light up when key OFF?

I have to check my truck later today.

Ok the odometer and the shifter indicator do light up at key OFF.
I never paid attention and had mine in key OFF.

To the OP:
So the range sensor is working as designed when key OFF but not key RUN?

I think something else is going on somewhere.

Installation is a bit easier in the 1st gear position. The sensor plunger is out more and does not have to be compressed as much. Make sure the transmission case mounting surface is clean because the ground connection is made through the sensor case and one of the mounting screws.

I think maybe the cluster I'm not sure I tested the 5 volt reference at the cluster and at the trs and they were at .25 volts maybe a short to ground somewhere I was going to try and isolate the circuit by splicing the 5 volt reference from the ac pressure switch and run that to both the cluster and the trs but according to the wiring diagram the cluster is supposed to give the 5 volt reference to the trs so I'm not sure if this would work so I'm just going to cut the wire at the cluster and at the trs and run a jumper.and see if that works unless someone has a better idea.
