06 2500 Diagnostics?
Hope you’ll can give me some ideas....
I have an 06 2500 with 172,000 miles that’s having some issues. I feel like they’re all related. Starting a few weeks back, the truck started to feel like it lost some of its power, shifting just wasn’t as smooth as it used to be when i’d step on it . Once the truck is warmed up, the fan roars like I’m hauling heavy up a huge grade, (Kind of like how the 6.7’s roar) and the belt squeals more when I’m turning the truck off. About the same time, the heater started being slow to work— I can drive for a good 15-20 before I get any heat in the cab. Even when I have it on high. Today, I was driving to work and it popped the “check gages” light and the coolant read as overheating. The truck was not overheating— no smell from the engine bay and was correctable by blowing the heat into the cab. The check gages light intermittently turned off and on for the remainder of the drive.
What the heck?! I’m thinking the thermostat is bad and/or the fan clutch is going out?
The truck just had brand new batteries installed last week, new fuel pump and sensor a couple months ago. Regular maintenance, coolant is full. Not used for any heavy hauling. Up until now it wouldn’t pop any codes.
I plan to take it to the shop at the end of the week for diagnostics but if I can fix it before that’d be ideal.
Any ideas appreciated!!
I would try and find out what is squealing
Pretty sure the squeal is just the belt tensioner going out. It only squeals when turning the engine off.
I plan to replace the thermostat, water pump, belt and belt tensioner this weekend. Hopefully that solves my issues.
