Is my transmission "hunting"...

I have an 05 2500, 240k miles. I have noticed that when I tow, about 7000 lbs, and in T/H when my transmission shifts from 3rd to 4th or OD the RPM's will raise about 2-300 then drop back down. It only does this once. I have read several threads where people state that their transmission will shift back and forth between 3rd and 4th but mine does not do that.

Is there a remedy for this? Do the remedies for the hunting apply to this case?

I don't know what this is...

I also found out that in T/H mode it will do it while not towing anything. It does not do it without T/H on.

When’s the last time your trans was serviced?
If you don’t know then it’s time.
Fluid, filter, governor pressure sensor, transducer and, band adjustment and see what that gets you.

Fluid and filter were done about 150 miles ago. The other stuff I am not sure about. I will look into it. Could any of that cause this issue?

When it revs up those 2-300 rpm is there any power behind it or is it like it’s in neutral?

It happens in about 1 second but I do not feel the truck slow down or anything. Forward movement seems to stay constant but like I said, it happens very quickly.

200-300 rpm variance is the TC unlocking and locking. The sift from 3rd to 4th is like 600-800 rpm drop depending on how hard you are on the throttle and when in TH the TC lock in OD is almost instant.

No idea what you are feeling when but it isn't normal and isn't shuttle shifting.
