Smile New 2007 3500.

I bought a NEW 2007 3500 Quad Cab 4X4 last week. Yes it was NEW, 93 miles! I drove it home with no problems and now have about 2150 miles on it. What are should I be watching for with the common rail system.

This is replacing a 1996 2500 4X4 with about 426,000 miles so i am familiar with the Cummins engine.

TIA

Matt

Congratulations! What an awesome score!

Somewhere in 3rd Gen is a good thread on what to do when you get your new-to-you truck. I can't find it, or I'd post a link.
It was started by a member steve05ram360. It's pretty in depth, and a lot of good info.
Hope you can find it, and it proves helpful.

yeah, we need pictures!

That is too cool for school!

Like mentioned above, give the fuel system a thorough going through. Diesel is fairly shelf stable, but it does eventually break down.
While your at it, replace ALL fluids. Oil and detergents do funny things when they sit for a long time.

Things to watch out for? Aluminum pistons can melt very quickly so keep an eye on the injectors, they have a tendency to hang open. Any sign of white smoke or rough running: shut it down, replace injectors, or risk a complete rebuild. Granted, while this issue is fairly rare, it does happen often enough that a warning is warranted. Bosch revised the injectors with newer, stronger parts so any new injectors won't have the issue (or at least less often). The root of the problem is sub-par filtration installed by Chrysler (now FCA) that uses a 10 micron filter. Cummins spec'd 2 micron. Best filter for the stock system is from Baldwin (IMHO).

Other than that, these engines are great, if you don't have any injector issues, you're good to go!

The HVAC in these trucks sucks. Get used to it.

Enjoy your brand new truck! Very cool... I can't believe you found that, a modern barn find!

I thought I had the lowest milage 2007 out there when I found mine in December with 2100 miles.

I changed all fluids and ran the fuel that was in it out then changed fuel filter and added a 2 micron fuel system.

Truck has been great and now has about 8700 miles.

Congrats on that find.

Finally got the pictures off my phone. I found the truck in Great Falls, MT. Drove it 1900 miles home without an hiccup.
