from pm comments...

took a look at the 2 stats i have and yes they have different diaphram sizes. adding a pic here shortly...

the 190* stat has a smaller diaphram than the 200* stat...

The Cummins part# 5292724 for 200 Deg thermostat, I got mine from PDP. I installed it on my 07 5.9, it fit just fine. It took a lot longer getting the coolant back in than it did to install!

Any leads on a 190 that is larger like the 200? I might just switch to the 200 if I can't find a 190 that is bigger. When I'm towing heavy my coolant temps are typically 210-220 anyway.

Tow Pig - 2006 3500 CCLB SRW, G56. Far from stock and still slow
Project - 2002 2500 QCLB SRW, NV5600. Not Running

Yeah but I need to go get one in hand, the blockoff port is the concern. My next step was to go bug the guys at the local Napa to look at their stant catalog to see if they have specs. What I found was a gates stat (no p/n handy atm)

Have you run a 180* stat with those loads? If so what was the effect on CTs?

No 190 but the local Cummins shop stocks 180 and 200. Part number on the 180 is 5292708.
I have dealt with the guy there quite a bit and he is pretty knowledgeable. He warned me that some 5.9 head castings will have clearance issues because the body of the 6.7 thermostats are larger.

He might be referring to an older head??? the stat we use works all the way back into the 90's IIRC, 58mm flange size.

The question that comes to my mind is if the blockoff port is not sealed off then flow continues thru it and back to the radiator... how is that going to affect head coolant temps?

Yeah that hole proved to be too big, went with one half that size on the next stat. It took forever to get up to temp. Which is another point of consideration... 1/16" was a better drill bit size to use.
