Upgrading he351 in compounds

I currently have a stock/s475 compound setup.

I am looking to get in the sxe s300 frame turbo.

I want a good tow pig with minimal lag. The he351 done good but running to hot with my setup.
I'm also wanting to stick with a t3 housing considering my manifold is a BD SS t3.

My questions are :

S360 or s362? Pretty sure s360 but opinions

What size housings ( xx/xx/xx) ?

Would it need to be gated (I have a spring gate already ) ?

Length of housings are different from s300 and HE351cw.

Why not remove the he351cw and open up the wastegate port from 5/8 to1"

For faster response you could switch the common 1.32AR on the s475 (assuming the 96/88 wheel is on that turbo) and get a tighter 1.15AR for a better matched set up.

What about just upgrading the exhaust side of the HE351 with the turbo labs mod?

Upgrading the exhaust side housing should be done in conjunction with the compressor side. Keep it even so to speak. And as luck would have it Turbo Lab and others do it the same way.

04.5 CC SB 4x4, Low stall converter, billet input, intermediate, and valve body mods. HPT tuned by Firepunk, FASS 150, BMS 50 injectors. Mechanical fan conversion with OEM plastic fan blades, Traction bars.

So the he351 is going to do just as good as a s360 if you open the exhuast housing up?
I have already drilled the wastegate port out to 1"

Honestly would like a clean compressor housing for the 351 and have it polished. Looks ugly sitting up there. Lol Idk where you could buy one at. Also jkidd would the 1.15 spool a lot faster than the 1.32

So basically keep the s475 with the 1.32 and add a s360

Or swap s475 to a 1.15 or 1.10 and keep the he351

Of swap s475 to a 1.15 or 1.10 and add a s360.

300 frame turbos look a lot cleaner to me and easier to adjust.

Before you throw parts at it.

What overall boost, whatís the primary alone making? Any boost leaks etc. rule out other causes before jumping straight to parts.

But I would start with the 1.15 housing and see what it does then next step do the he351cw turbine upgrade. Then if thatís still not enough then consider a new secondary.

I will have to get numbers again. I already forgot lol.

Would going from the 1.32 to the 1.15 drop hp?

No, because even with the smaller housing your primaries turbine can support well over 1000whp.

I got some pressure measurements...

RPM @2000 70-mph
EGT 1100
Manifold Boost 4psi
Primary 4psi
This one was just cruising down the interstate up a little incline

RPM @2000 - 3100 70mph-100mph
EGT 1400
Manifold Boost 58
Primary 36

This was EFI cranked up, 6th gear, and getting on it

Upgrading he351 in compounds

Where are you measuring your primary boost at?

Because it has to be calculated from secondary boost, overall boost and atmospheric pressure.

What elevation are you at?

Edit, some rough math:

I assume you meant secondary boost (the he351cw). Assuming that and sea level elevation;

Your secondary is making 36psig or 3.45 PR

With your overall boost at 58psig or 4.95 PR that puts your primary (S475) at only a 1.43 PR or 6.3psig.

Your secondary ainít doing . If those assumptions are correct or close then I would start with the tighter housing.

My boost gauges are in the cold pipe between the 475 amd the 351 the other is in intake manifold

Correct me if I'm wrong but the air goes into the 475 first then up to the he351 on the cold pipe. And that is where I was reading the 36psi. My 351 goes straight to the CAC

If your numbers are correct that means your he351 is only putting out 22# of boost. Have you tried adjusting the wastegate on the he351? I have a very similar setup to yours just installed and starting to work on the tuning. I donít remember the exact numbers on mine but my 475 is pushing around 15-20psi and the he351 is 25-30psi
