LED review: Morimoto 2stroke 2.0's

LED review: Morimoto 2stroke 2.0's

These arrived today. These were rated #4 by some yahoo who reviews these things. The #4 rating was in the reflector type of housing. Well, here we go, gonna drop these in the stock housings and see how they do. I have both headlights and driving lights.

Going to be looking at:
1) Driving light output (distance) & beam pattern compared to the halogens
2) Headlight output (distance) & beam pattern compared to the halogens
3) Combined driving & headlight output compared to halogens
4) Oncoming traffic impressions (park truck with lights on and drive at it in a small car and either spit out 4 letter words or roll the thumb up)

Currently there are Wagner 9006's in the driving lights and 1 Wagner & 1 Sylvania basic halogens in the headlights. Going to find a dark road that is flat (hahahahha... pfmth ahem) to do the testing on. If I can find a road with reflectors on it (not likely) I'll use that has the reference. If not, I'll go find the reflector stakes at home depot and use those.

Timeline... prooobbbbably not going to happen until Saturday nite (least likely, trail work all day) or Sunday nite. Weather permitting.

Well that did not go as well as I had hoped... cant get the good tripod in there to get good shots. Took them freehand and they were OK, not sure if they are better then the cell phone pics. So for now, cell phone pics below...

Halogen headlights only

Halogen headlights + halogen driving

Halogen highbeams

Had to work late so nogo on install, but... it was dry so took these shots. Going to add a daylight shot so you can see it all

headlights only

headlights + driving

Highbeams

Driving lights only

Daylight

Morimoto lights… drivers side is defective, low & high are reversed. When hibeams are on the drivers side shifts to a low beam output.

Driving lights

Headlights only

Headlights + driving lights

Highbeams

Update 1/20/2020: Heard back from Morimoto from the support email I sent on the sloppy fit... Kind of a long time for them to get back to me. I explained the issue and mentioned it was resolved with another o-ring. I also mentioned the issue with the 9007 bulb. Will see how that pans out

I run these bulbs in our car and am happy with them. Interested to see what you think in the dodge. I run projector hids, wonder how they would stack up. Much cheaper for sure.

Most important thing to remember when installing brighter/different bulbs is that you need to re-aim the headlights. Led/hids throw light farther and higher than stock bulbs, re-aiming will really help to minimize blinding oncoming traffic and being brighted back.

Another thought i just had is if you can get pictures when it's all wet out. Higher Kelvin tends not to work as well in the rain. I don't think these are too high in the Kelvin range.

Lol I adjusted them and then checked them again because, I was getting high beamed constantly. I also re-adjusted after installing my lift.

Its almost always wet out these days, and thankfully mild. It was t-shirt weather on Sunday lol.

Looking at all of the bulbs... to me it looks like a design needs to be created for a reflector housing and not settle for a one size fits all type of setup. If it were me designing it, I'd aim the LEDs back towards the reflector and not off to the side. then I'd have a "wall" of sorts @ the LED's to create the cutoff for oncoming drivers. High beams would have LEDs above the wall...

These amazon/ebay sellers crack me up with the claims they have. 12000LM. Sorry, not even close.

The LED chips are not in the correct location, they don't mimic a halogen. That's why they suck.
