Trucks makeover is coming to an end... New tires going on tomorrow, 110k out of the Toyo OC 2's is enough lol. Gonna take some shots of the truck before and after the tire swap and will post them up in post #1. FWIW, I am running a 100% eco driving tank this week to see what the change is after the tire swap.

And another update... seems a retune is in order. What worked with the old tires, not so much with the new. I am apparently hitting higher loads at lower rpms (expected) and now have some timing rattle. Nothing big, but enough to notice and take action on. Wont do this until next weekend, I want to run this tank down to compare before & after on the same tune.

Next comment... New tires out of the shop have drag... so much that I thought the brakes were sticking. Same feeling. Went down a grade right after the alignment and found that I'd lost speed going down hill compared to just 4~5 hours earlier. So my initial gut was telling me there would be a good mpg drop. However... now that I am into day 2 and there are some heat cycles on them, that dragging brake feeling is gone, and the timing rattle intensity has also diminished. I have also noticed some of the coasting issues are also diminishing.

Anyways, just thought I'd toss that out there...

Dude that is amazing to 100k out of tires. I am thoroughly impressed.

Yes new tires are always funky for 500 miles. They feel very squirmy to me.

I still need to post the 110k pics in the toyo thread, should I start another for these ? lol

These tires are squirmy for sure, and added a lot of drag FE on this tank has "tanked"... maybe 21 if I am lucky. (speedo corrected) It will be interesting to see what happens to FE after the retune.

Bumping this back up... needed to remind myself of where I was to compare against what I see now...

Was looking for mpg data on what my truck did this time last year, I see a lot of tanks in the 21.0~21.5 mpg range during the March-April time frame. This was with the front fully covered and maximum IATs. Now after the tune overhaul for cold air and in roughly the same ambient temps I'm now seeing 22.0x tanks. Two of them so far with a a DGAS tank (17.x mpg) in there for fun. The last tank had rain & winds with ambients down into the upper 30's again and still broke 22.0x.

During the search I came across the minnesota thread (UDC tuning) and noted mpg numbers in the 20.0 range in the same time frame (Mar-Apr). That was with the 2" level & 34" tires @ 900~1000' elevation, OEM fan installed but unplugged & front covered as much as possible.

Its nice to review these threads from time to time to see where I was compared to where I'm at now. No where in my truck history have I ever managed 22.0x in Mar/Apr which makes me think how far off 23's are once again. For those not here long, had a bet last year with a co-worker for a 5 tank average of 23.0 mpg or better with a Sept 30th cut off for getting it done. That month I had 5 tanks above 23.0 & managed a 23.198 mpg average.

Ongoing target is that 23.347 mpg tank listed in the signature. Its good to have a target.

Oh and Dan, I pulled the bed seals and removed the bumper mod as it lost its effectiveness... (collapsed forming a nice parachute) and, no 2nd air dam up front. 2 areas that have gains (unknown mpg gains though, coasting improves) that I can still address for improved numbers.

Thatís amazing! Like I said before I really need to get a handle on the HP tuning. Iím currently doing my annual trip to North Carolina and I completely blocked the front grille which was very effective it seems as my side mirrors are shaking now which they never did before, also I had to remove my cold front that covers the radiator and hidden behind the grille as the temp would start to creep up on the highway and Iíd have to turn on the electric fan periodically so I completely removed the cold front but left the grille covers on. I have the bed seals on but I couldnít fabricate anything for the rear bumper before leaving on my trip so it is what it is. Kinda disappointed in the mileage this trip (20.4) speeds between 65-70 but terrible head wind side winds blowing the truck all over the road for most of the trip and thunderstorms. Maybe a combo of bad conditions and no rear bumper mod contributing to the lower mpg than last year. Initially it was doing better than before as the odometer miles when the gas gauge came off the pin was 20 miles better than ever but by the time a half tank rolled around I was 10-20 miles worse than before and thatís also when the weather got bad. Iím also running a BMS 100 hp injector now too up from a stock nozzle last year and also this is the 4x4 3500, not the truck in my sig.

Pull the bed seals until you get the bumper done. It definitely adds drag... I will bet your return trip will be better.

21.4 mpg last tank over 400 miles... Normal driving speeds up to 65-68 mph at times. Not a dgas tank but nit 100% eco driving either. Going to add another front block on the CAC this morning before hitting the road (240-250 miles today). I want to see how it does retuned with hotter iats. I expect mid 22s easy, gonna drive it the same as the last 400 miles...planning a fillup again at 400ish miles to compare since driving conditikns will be the same (ambient temps & traffic)

That's pretty good for not really trying! Well on my trip back I flew mostly 80 mph, I just wanted to get home and I left the bed seals in and also the complete grille block was left in. Btw the complete block is too much for warmer temps as I had to turn the fan on occasionally. Anyways I netted 18.4 on the way back without any bad headwinds and I had some decent tailwinds helping out. temps were mostly in the 80s.

Thats damn good for mostly 80 mph... my return trip yesterday got foiled by too much traffic... got stuck for too long and the return trip turned into a DGAS trip. Took 4 hrs for a 2 hr drive & got home @ 8p. grrrr.

I also have concluded that blocking flow to the fuel cooler does no good, power drops a tad bit and mpg's follow. My assumption is the ID changes.
