What is the code?

You can stop at an auto parts and have them read it out to you . I keep a small Ultra Gauge on the dash hooked up to the OBSII part all the time. Reads out when a regeneration. is going on, reads and clears codes. Simple, cheap and essential for these modern emissions diesels.

Once you know the code it is usually easy to figure out what that means.

I drove it by AutoZone and their scanner didn't pick up any info or code. I wanted to have an idea of what is going on before taking in to the Dealer.

They probably didn't turn the key on to run without starting and it will read it. I have a cheap one from Autozone and it reads codes.

yes sir....I read Post #3....Im saying go to a different Auto Zone have them hook up the OBD scanner and watch them so they do it correctly. It must be plugged in and then hit the key/push button with no foot on the brake to the run position (do NOT start). It will read the code....the first Auto Zone did not hook it up correctly. I'm only trying to help you. Or go back to the first Auto Zone and watch them while hooking it up following the directions in the previous sentences.....I say all of this as it happened to me.

thanks! does it make a difference if the truck is running vs not? My truck was running when he tried to read it. I have a nice scanner, but can't find it. Hopefully someone didn't borrow it.

YES...It can not be running or on the ACC position....it must be in the RUN position but not running....that's the only way it will read it.

Sorry. My posts are doing something funny. Thanks for your advice. MY truck was already running, so that is where the problem must have been. Based on your advice, I am definitely taking it by again and watch them do it. (or better yet, find my scanner)
