650 Mile Trip Pulling 7500LB TT TH Review

Just wanted to give my thoughts on my latest trip with my 13 Ram 2500 CTD.

Some facts:

My truck in Sig 2200 miles
2014 Wolf Pack TT TH 7500 LB Dry
Drove 647 miles round trip
EVIC 10.8 MPG
Hand calculated 10.4 MPG
Rear tires at 54 PSI (forgot to bump them up)
TH Mode the whole trip
EB mode the whole trip
3:42 Axle Ratio

Truck did awesome, one hand on steering wheel etc. Was down in Arkansas
And had a few 7% Grades. Tranny acted a little wired a few times on the down shifts but much improved over my 2012

I locked out 6th when I was running 60 mph but on the interstate when flat ran 6th and enjoyed it.

I found out that the cruise really worked well on the Interstate with hills. Maybe my foot was just tired. LOL

One problem with the truck, my DEF fluid was full before I left and the gauge never moved. No warning, chimes or messages.

Last trip about the same miles, I drained the DEF tank and never received any warning etc. I was running 75mph plus in heavy wind.

Has anyone else gone on a trip pulling 7500 lbs and not seen there DEF gauge move?

Thanks for the intel. I have a similar truck and we have a 30' 2008 Keystone that's near 10,000 loaded. Have not had a chance to pull yet but plan to do a trip out to Acadia National Park this summer for "the big one". What kind of hitch do you use and how long is your TT? Any swaying issues? My wife was constantly stressing over the rocking when we pulled with the K2500 Suburban.

When topped off you won't see that DEF gauge move for about 800 or 900 miles. My TT is about 8K pounds loaded. I thought my gauge was stuck at 100% the first time this happened. Once it starts moving it moves a lot faster.

That is wired because the first time I pulled the TT it ate through the DEF and the gauge showed it.

In another thread someone stated the DEF gauge is not accurate until something like 60% of the fluid is remaining due to the quantity gauge installed. Its not a float type gauge because DEF freezes. They stated how it was measures, however, I can't recall what it was.

So its going to show full for a long time, then go down a lot faster than normal.

My TT is 32 ft

When I load up my Toy Hauler,I am at about 10k. I had a load leveling system with the Tunioun Bars. If you have a load leveling system than go to etrailer.com and look up Reese part number RP26002 Dual cam High Performance sway control.

There under. $200 bucks delivered and easy to install.

I got a little sway for the first time today but I was up against a 35 mph Cross wind. I just slowed down to 60 mph and no problems.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

I pull either a 7500lb cargo trailer or a 10k TT, 39000 miles on the truck 22k pulling a trailer. I've marked down the milage each time I fill up the DEF tank. I've been averaging 3000miles on about 2.5 gallons. The thing I find curious about mine, the gauge will almost be on E and I can only get 5gallons in it. I just had it topped off on Friday during an oil change, I think I'm going to run it until it limps this time. Then fill it up to see if its an 8 gallon tank like the documents say or 5 gallons like I believe.

I believe I read that the chassis cabs hold 8 gallons of DEF but the pick-ups only hold about 5.5 gallons.
