Hands down the best app for IOS is the AutoAgent app. Even if your not tuned. It still has all the capabilities and features that one would use if they were tuned.

I have no clue if you can use your obd link mx device with it though.

you won't find any decent apps for Apple devices.

Apple greatly controls its users by only allowing very small and select apps. Apple controls the users by only allowing Apple-approved apps. Apple way overcharges developers for the " privilege " to be on the app store. The apple universe is VERY small and limited. It is a product designed to be simple, and apps like AlfaOBD tend to be overly complex for Apple users. So Apple protects its users by not allowing complex apps. Apple controls its users. Apple has no faith in its users or developers. Apple limits what they can and can not do, based on what Apple believes.

Again, the reason AlfaOBD and all other OBD type apps don't work on Apple devices is because of APPLE. It is NOT the developers that are having issues. It is APPLE not wanting certain types of apps OR charging an insane price to be listed in App Store.

Once you get an Android device, you will find MANY apps that can use the MX adapter. And, you shall discover it is YOU that controls your device, not the device that controls YOU.

So, in the Android universe, you shall find the light you seek. ( you may not know you're seeking it yet, but I assure you, you are seeking it...)

Yes. I work in Information Tech. The most limited products are made and sold by Apple.

Apple takes pride in its app store. Because they control what apps are allowed, and thus control the end-users. One of the reasons Apple products tend to be more "reliable" than equal PC / Android systems is that Apple controls the software allowed to be used. This has the direct effect of limiting what is available for Apple users and makes it difficult for developers to bring new software.

Think of the old AOL. Back in the late 80's to late 90's AOL offered " internet ". Thing is, most AOL users wore never actually on the internet. The wore "stuck" in the AOL universe. Near the end, AOL started putting ad's everywhere. Users are paying for the internet, and get to see ads when connecting, ads when clicking, ads when browsing, ads and ads. In comparison, at the same time, there wore FREE ISP's that cost nothing, but put ads. And those FREE providers did not put as many ads as paid AOL service. Apple is kinda like that, they are a very limited device that controls what the users can and cannot do. And Apple DECIDES what is safe and dangerous for you. It is like AOL and Apple are being " Daddies " to the end-users.

Here, another good example. A few years ago a new law office bought new "expensive" Apple computers from BestBuy. The "Geeks" at best buy installed the apples. The customer provided 2 software applications need for Lawyers. The "Geeks" tried to install the software on the Apples, only to find it won't work. The software maker does NOT make apple software. In fact, I can't think of ANY law software written for Apple. ( It is the same for the medical industry, there is very little apple device support). The Software company explained it costs tens of thousands to just get Apple to approve the software and has absolutely no intention of ever making Apple-compatible software. The Geeks basically said they done, the Apples are set up. The law office called me. We had to dual boot all the Apples to Windows 7. So, they "Have" Apple computers, but they only ever use the Windows. This has happened a few times where a bussness will buy Apple products for whatever reason ( maybe they have one at home, maybe someone told them they are reliable, maybe the higher cost made them feel like it is a better system..). Then We need to either replace them with PC or dual boot to Windows for software. Real Business / medical software will NEVER support Apple's universe. It is just too limited, too expensive per unit, no backend support (servers, and such), very expensive payment to Apple for the " Prilivge " to be used on Apple products. Apple will remain a high-end solution for residential users.

Don't get me wrong, Apple has a place. Its good for Art nad video stuff. It's interface tends to be overly simplistic and good for new users.

Also, to clarify from above post of mine. I AM NOT saying Apple users are "Simple". I'm saying Apple thinks and wants its users to be "Simple". I know many very smart and knowledgable Apple users when it comes to "tech". They just like the interface. Devices can be very personal. If your fist device was an Apple, then you will tend to stick with it. It's hard to switch from Android to Apple and back. I personally do have Apple devices, and I use em. I'll admit I prefer the Ipad over any Android Tablet. Mainly for Porn. Porn sights have a hard time putting pop-ups and ads on Ipad. So I can spend hours on porn sites on an IpAd and it'll be fine. Try to spend 10 min on an Android, and you will end up with many pop-ups and ads all over. So, I'll agree Apple is great for viewing porn...

Apple is for those that want a one and done system.
Android and windows is for the rest of the world that likes freedom, features and self control. Simple as that.

Interesting opinion gentlemen. Thanks for sharing. Could you please help the OP by showing him these better OBD apps? Or any OBD app?

Pretty much all the OBD apps, whether iOS or Android, paid or free, do the same basic thing- they’re all just basic scanners. NONE of them are anywhere near capable of what AlfaOBD can do, unless you get into expensive dedicated tools or PC software. Pretty much the only differences you’re looking at is how each one presents their gauges layout. Just pick one from the App Store that looks good to you, and use the AlfaOBD on a dedicated device when you need something that can do more that just read and clear common faults.

@HeavyTwo I know of 3 doctors offices that use nothing but Apple devices and several real estate offices as well.

I may not be as knowledgeable as you in the IT world, however I'm working on my degree in computer engineering technology. I've had these discussions with professors over the Apple vs. Windows/Android worlds. Is Apple over controlling? To a degree, sure. Is Apple expensive? Sure. Are their devices reliable day after day? Absolutely.

I know how to do a lot of things in the Apple world. Windows, not as much, but I'm learning them. I don't like them. Their systems are convoluted, multi stepped and can be overly complicated when not necessary, riddled with 'minefields' and very susceptible to malware when compared to Apple.

This debate of pros and cons can go on for ever, kinda like politics. The fact is they are both tools that do jobs. It is up to the consumer to pick the right tool for the job and for them. I own both, admittedly a lot more Apple products, but I do use Windows when necessary. Will not own an android phone though. Everyone I know who has an android phone (new or old) has stupid little issues that I don't see with iPhones. Yes, I know iPhones have issues too, but I'll take the headache over the diarrhea. JMHO.
