Aisin shift flare

I have a 2018 3500. Recently, I have noticed a much more pronounced and frequent 3-4 shift flare. I can't really pinpoint a pattern to it. It doesn't do it all the time. All the other shifts seem normal. I have no shuttering or anything else to indicate a problem.

I have read other threads, and it seems like this is a common issue. However many of the posts were for older trucks. There were updates available. But no real indication of a resolution. and those threads have been closed.

Is this flare an issue? Is there any new updates to address this?

Thanks

It's not a shift flare most likely.....it is mentioned in the owners manual, there is a lockup clutch in the trans ( for mileage/performance) that locks between the 3-4 gears. Both of my trucks, 2014 and 2016 did it/do it.

is seems like it has excessive slip and then grabs 4th gear. it that the same? it is way more pronounced recently. sometimes it is perfectly smooth

That sounds pretty much the same as my truck. When they did my water pump recall last year, I brought this up and they did a "relearn" on the transmission and it seemed to help quite a bit, doesn't do it much anymore.

My '17 does it. Slips when going from 3rd to 4th.
I took it to the dealer and supposedly the mechanic said he did some update. It didn't really seem like it changed.
What I notice is that during casual driving is when I notice it.
If I am accelerating fairly hard, or when I am towing my trailer, it hardly ever does it.

I have to get my truck in within the next week or two and it is on my list for them to do something again. This time I am going to a different dealer and I'll see if they do anything different than the first guy.

With my Aisin, I had to resist the urge to “help” it shift gears by letting off of the throttle. That single action caused most of the shift problems that I had to start with. Dealership did a RELEARN on mine, and I quit helping it shift. 400 mile trip and everything was perfect. Remember, this is a learning transmission, and you can teach it bad habits! Helping it shift, will let it jump a gear, and may actually be the SLIPPING that you think is happening!

There has been much debate whether the Aisin is a learning trans or not...most say no.

I have seen this intermittent flare also from day one...mostly after an engine restart and everything is still warm. Like others have mentioned... the best thing to do to prevent this is a steady application of the accelerator pedal.

Also, I have asked every time I go to the dealer for transmission updates due to this and a couple of other small nuisance issues...I have had at least one update with no noticeable changes.

it seems like it does it more when the truck/transmission are warm.
also if i am easy on the throttle
sounds common
