Normal surface rust on new rig?

Looking at a leftover '18 2500, took a peak underneath. Thoughts?

Most of that looks like dirt although there is definitely some rust there as well. Either way I would question why there is that much dirt on the underside of a brand new vehicle.

Was it a demo thatís been ran in the salt all winter? Looks excessive to me for a new lot truck.

Agree, not normal for a new truck. Demo? How many miles on it?
What's really weird is the rust on the trailing edges of some of the components.
Maybe Jose had to many teqillyas the night before that chassis come down the line and fell asleep with the paint gun?

Either way, that's zero reason to not buy that truck if everything else is what you are looking for. It's the bottom of a pickup truck if it was shiny and black, it would look like that in the near future anyways.

Where is it? What part of the world?

If you're in South Florida, on paved roads where I live, I'd say it's excessive. If you're in Michigan where I am right now, I wouldn't worry about it.

It isn't just the snow/salt deal that causes oxidation on unprotected metals, it's dirt. Leaving it on. Sometimes, it can't be helped unless you want to wash it every day. Which seriously isn't worth it.

Looks more like dirt to me.

Take it to a good Car Wash, where they do the underside as well, and then look at it. I'd be willing to bet a beer most of it will be gone

Mine is still clean black and shiny underneath with 2500 miles.

Maybe was test driven in rain or wet roads. Probably was sitting for a while too.

Not normal at all. My 2016 with 50K looks 10 times better then that. Must be a north east truck used on salted roads. Made the mistake of buying one of those once... Won't happen again. It will look much worse in a years time.

They can get "salted" during transport. Hard to tell without knowing if you're in Hawaii, Canada, or somewhere in between.

Maybe if we start telling people that the brain is an app, they will start using it?

My truck looks better than that after sitting outside for 4 1/2 years.
Why would you even consider buying a new rusted truck.
Keep looking that truck isn't new
