Will PCM clear a "Dealer Only" Code Once Set?

Simple issue. I have the P2048 code which is the dreaded "XX miles till Max 5 mph - See dealer". Usually the problem is the PCM software (mine hasn't been updated since I bought the truck new in Nov of 2013) or the def injector is dead. If I pull the injector and the resistance is not 11-13 ohms, it needs to be replaced.

I also barely made it home with said truck tonight and it is saying "Max 5 MPH" from now on.

So, the question is - if I fix it can the computer make itself happy again or will only a trip to the dealer (or stealer) be able to clear the code?

Second question, is the damn thing serious about 5 mph? Really?

Thanks in advance for the input

P2048 is a code for a fault in the DEF injection circuit "P2048 Reductant Injection Valve Circuit Low Bank 1 Unit 1"

So, not a pcm software issue, sounds more like a hardware or wiring issue.

Did this for months. Recall fixed it, I just did not have time to drop off.

@HeavyTwo

Did your truck ever really go into the 5 mph mode as warned?

It never went into limp or 5mph. It gave warning that in XX miles that I would be limited to 5mph.

( it may have been limited once, hard to recall, as it was basically a daily occurrence till I got the recall)

I figured since you’d cleared the code as many times as you playfully indicated—that maybe you did for certain experience at least one derate. I’m

Dug out my alternative obdII scanner and cleared the code from the stored codes. (Still in Permanent and CE light so no emissions test for me.)

Plan is to get two new tires on front with alignment then off to the dealer for 7 or 8 recall items. (one of them is tack weld on drag link so alignment first)

I wish it was possible to install the software updates myself.

After all the helpful input thought I would provide an update.

Well truck went into limp mode after last update - July. 5 mph. Thank you, not, California. So being a somewhat ingenious young man I bought a new DEF injector and connected only the wiring to it. This allowed me to clear the code and get out of limp mode. Yea!

Unfortunately the bolts on the old injector snapped off (rusty on a 30K truck with no snow driving), even after a day soaking, so then I had to have them re-tapped - which required a bit of exhaust system removal and re-install exhaust and injector. OK, so now I can go for the emissions test and get new tags.

I am thinking a delete would be easier. And the 200 mi then limp mode is really a PITA. Total cost to fix it, $300. Only non-maint repair in 6 years so I am not complaining about parts. I just don't like to walk (or go 5 mph, LOL)

What is the warranty? Is it not 8 year 80k smog warranty? Or recall maybe?

Is your emissions test annual? There's no way I'd have deleted if we had testing here. I don't know how quick you can swap out just the "test pipe" section since I did the whole exhaust at once.

My next truck will probably be "compliant" tuning either way.

Do a intact tune and then the egr and def system is shut off. Exhaust is still installed and operational and will still regen when needed. Not sure how the emissions test is performed where your at but you and always retune back to stock

Nope, per the owners manual DEF injector is 5/50K. Next month is 6 years of ownership for me.
