Diesel fuel

So. Bought a truck new in 16. Has 1800 miles on it. Had to go away for couple years. Fuel is about year to 2 years old. Is the fuel in there bad? Or good to roll??

Sitting for 2 years? I would drain and replace every fluid in the truck, change every filter as well. That is a lot of time for condensation to build up.

I would be concerned about the DEF, that will need to be drained and purged from the system. Engine oil and fuel, that depends on the environment the truck sat in for the past two years.

On the DEF, you probably gonna want to drain and replace. It is a precise mixture of mostly water. Over time, the water evaporates changing the mixture. The system sees a slight change in the mixture and puts a check engine light. Of course, you can just put some electric tape over the check light to fi it. ( DO NOT use clear masking tape, it just blurs the "check engine" error light)

However, if the mix is too far off, the system will put truck in to limp mode. Requiring a dealer visit.

Or use a OBDII blue tooth tool to clear.

If the DEF tank is near empty, maybe you can get away with just filling it. Same with the fuel, if its near empty, filling it should help.

I'd definitely change all filters ASAP.

It doesn't need DEF??? Why???

DEF sitting in the truck that long is definitely bad, and the fuel likely has algae growing in it as well as condensation contamination.

As stated, drain and replace EVERY fluid and filter if you plan to keep and drive the truck, or be prepared for lots of aggravation with expensive repairs.

Maybe his truck no longer uses def 😉. I’ve ran a 2nd gen truck that’s was parked for over 2 years. Had a full tank wasn’t gonna waste it. Only thing was the gauge level got stuck but eventually freed up. I wouldn’t worry about it. Maybe put some diesel treatment or fresh diesel in there and change the fuel filters if it makes you feel better.

Well, when you come on here and ask technical questions without providing details on your truck, you get answers that don't fit your situation.

Hate it when someone takes my emissions stuff..

So, LA11, I thought that "LA" was for LA in California. I was feeling bad that you have to live in California, but as you have no emissions... I suppose you live in one of the real American States.
