TYC Black OEM Projectors with The Retro Fit Source’s Mini D2S 4.0 projectors retrofitted inside the headlight. 5500k bulbs 50w ballast. edit. Sold projectors. Purchased Mopar Black Appearance Package projectors running a INNOVITED 55w 5000k HID KIT
After install only 1 issue. Headlights won’t turn on when truck is off sometimes due to power issues I’m experiencing. I thought a fuse fixed it but that’s a long story.
Bottom line they’re bright and exactly what I need out here on these country roads.
Drives fine. Lost a little pep, obviously switching to larger tires. You just have to relearn how to get into the pedal again when you wanna get up and go. I’m nervous I’ll do something stupid so even if I’m overly cautious I always ease into the throttle. Could care less if people speed around me. Atleast until I regear to be safe. That’s just me.
Headlights found on amazon believe it or not. To my surprise I didn’t think I’d find any Ram parts. Regardless, I went with TYC. Reputable brand and are solid replicas. Lights cost about $500. Projector Retrofit Kit from The Retro Fit Source was about $400. Then of course there’s the adapter you have to buy if your lights originally came with Quad Headlights, like mine did. Got it from shop.retroshop.us which was about $135. It allows you to plug n’ play from stock harness into projector lights
Nice looking truck, I like the stance and from the parts list i bet she rides nice. I also like the manual 4x shift. I’m with you on the 4wd. I put mine in 4x, once.
4.10’s for the win. Last two trucks had 4.56’s. First go around with 4.56 was fun. Second go around with 4.56 was only because that’s all I knew. This time around I know for a fact I want 4.10’s
Lesson learned from my ‘14 and ‘17 was you just never, never, know what life will throw your way. For me I’ve sipped the kool-aid, twice, and both times I wished I held out on tuning just a little while longer. Sometimes it’s just nice having a stock truck, non tuned, without having to worry about bringing it in for repair and them blaming you because of your tune.
As long as machines are built by humans there will always be opportunity for error. I’ll probably wait till 50-75k this time before I tune. I’ll re-gear way before then.
With the terrible tires mine came with, I have used 4 wheel drive to back into the drive.... its not that steep but I guess smooth concrete driveways are to slick for them
Nice looking truck man. Couple of questions for you. Did you need any trimming with that tire and wheel set up? Also are those "The standard" wheels or "double standard"? Also you mind posting a pic of showing the stance and how far the tires stick out with the +18 offset!
Did you drive the truck much with the stock rear trackbar setup, specifically on the highway at high speeds with curves that include dips? Kind of a specific question I know. Reason I ask is on a recent trip I was able to get my first ever "unsettled" feeling out of my 14 Crew Cab long bed 2500. I was on the interstate doing between 70-80 mph through curves where there were some dips/frost heaves and oh boy at those interstate speeds it unsettled the truck big time(yes I know a simple solution would be to slow down). Everything on my truck suspension/drive train wise is stock and I can only assume a shock upgrade wouldn't hurt.
However I have been wondering how much the Thuren rear trackbar setup could help in those situations I describe above, even on a stock truck. Just curious if you have any experience/thoughts on the handling given you have the rear Thuren trackbar setup. Thanks!
I think part of what forces the suspension to unload quickly is the front sway bar. It’s so stiff it makes anything your axle do, your frame will do also (thus you feel everything.) try hitting a dip in your neighborhood at an angle and you’ll see what I mean. Since there’s so much weight in the front (ie motor).
My aftermarket sway bar completely got rid of that problem. Now every time I hit a bump/dip unevenly my truck won’t move side to side anymore. The axel now moves MORE independently of the frame resulting in less energy being directed upward.
Of course I did add new shocks and front /rear track bar at the same time. However the immediate solution was the front sway bar. Now, how much did the new front/rear track bar and shocks contribute to the truck swaying less..not exactly sure.
My suggestion start with front sway bar. You will see a night and day difference. A lot of aftermarket parts are only bling on these trucks. This modification is actually one of the few that you benefit from everyday and WILL notice.
What shocks and springs did you go with? How much of an increase in ride quality did you notice especially on road?
Sorry, read the first page and see you did not go with the Thuren tuned Kings that are matched to the coil spring stiffness. Why?
I've used those D2s projectors on 2 other trucks I've owned and really liked them. Good lighting without blinding others and retrofit customer service has been great to work with.
Does upgrading the suspension like this make it less capable as a tow rig? I tow a 8000lb travel trailer and switched from an f150 cause it was a tail wagging the dog feeling.
Could I do this suspension setup to my ram 2500 and still be able to tow good?
Your Truck looks very Sharp. I am new to the Forum and have a 2500 except it's a Hemi. All Thuren suspension. The ride is very nice and i tow my Camper at over 7k easily. I use timbrens when towing only. Only takes a few minutes to swap them in and out.
