2012 3500 Transformation

Part I:

In 2016-2017 spent months (~6) looking for a new truck to replace my 2003 2500 Cummins. I was looking for a unicorn of sorts: 2012 3500 4wd, SRW, Megacab, Rambox, Longhorn Laramie with < 130,000 miles for <$38,000.00. Other stipulations required it be a southern truck and not previously modified. Finally, in May of 2017 I found one that fit my billet! It was located in Cushing, OK and I gave up my Memorial Day weekend plans to fly down and pick it up.

Part II:
The process of carefully and tastefully modifying the truck began almost immediately. Over the course of the next 18 months I had completed the following:
Full Delete w/ coolant bypass, upgraded exhaust 5 inch straight, FASS fuel filter & pump system, head gasket, head studs, valves, exhaust manifold, turbo upgrade, air intake, quick release grill, tuned, EFI Live digital gauges, RevMax transmission, upgrade front and rear differentials and axles, replaced diff covers, maxxis linkages, fox leveling coil springs, Transmission pan and plate upgrade, Timbrens, Rancho shocks all the way around, Toyo E rated 35" R/Ts, GoRhino wheel-to-wheel step bars with aftermarket LineX coating, Retro Shop head lights and fog lights, Recon tail lights and third brake light, re-build front driver's lower seat bolster, console safe, Ranch Hand rear bumper, Bak Flip tonneau, debadged & rebadged (Reverse Flag), and many other smaller items I am overlooking. When all said and done, the Devil's Chariot (as dubbed by two of my buddies one night after some whiskey and ranger TV) was producing somewhere around 700 hp and looked relatively stock.

Finally, I was just about done. Time to drive it a while and enjoy it.

Part III:

Well, good 'ol Murphy strikes again. Just when you think you are out, they pull you right back in.
On March 1st I was driving about 45-50 mph on a major road near my house when a minivan shot out from a red light into my path. I swerved hard, but we still collided. Needless to say, the swerving caused my frame to bend, but certainly saved the other driver's life.

Her insurance totaled my truck and after over a month of going back and forth and submitting receipts upon receipts, we have finally reached a settlement. Not enough to buy and build another truck like this. Not even close. Side bar, I looked up the word insurance and it originates from the same word that the words thief, criminal, and rip off artists stem from.

So, I bought the salvage title and will be once again rebuilding the Devil's Chariot. I am currently about three weeks from even touching the rebuild and plan to change it up a bit since I will be starting with a new frame and building it back up from there.

If you have any photos, links, ideas, or constructive input I would love to hear from you.

*tear in my eye*

But, I am so very thankful no one was seriously injured.

Onto the Part IV here in a few weeks.

Glad everyone is ok. Gotta love these idiots who think their time is more valuable than yours and thus canít be bothered to WAIT or YIELD. Seems like weekly Iím cutting some ignorant jackwagon outta their subcompact who probably thought that truck would miracle itself into not hitting them. These idiots are why billion-dollar insurance companies are billion-dollar insurance companies. Biggest scam ever legislated into mandatory existence.

Good luck with the build!

Hmm, but I like my ram box short bed. Although, that would be a nice platform for a super-megacab or a 6x6.

I guess I'll just stick with the mega ram box config.

I'm with pufferman, MCLB Devil's Chariot can carry more souls of your enemies.
If I were in that situation I'd do it In a heartbeat vs. Shelling out several thousand to have a frame extended.

But BS aside I'm also ecstatic that no one was seriously hurt, you 100% saved her life by swerving, amazing what happens when people actually pay attention to the road ahead!

Update:
So, we are having a hard time finding a frame at the moment. We can't start on the rebuild until mid-May at the earliest anyhow. In the interim, here is my current dream sheet of changes, but open to suggestions. Also, struggling with deciding on a paint scheme, keeping in mind the interior will remain the Longhorn Laramie two tone brown. I am thinking something in the muted earth tones.

Again, if you read this list and have any suggestions for options or alternatives, please speak up.

Hood:

Headlight Replacement

Front Bumper
They are releasing this for the RAM 2500/3500 in about 30 days so it should be available in time. If so, I would like to get this unit with the pre-runner guard, small (3x3) lights and winch w/ synthetic rope.
https://fabfours.com/product/dodge-1...-front-bumper/

If the Matrix unit does not release for my truck in time to complete the build, then I will stick with the original Grumper plan.
https://fabfours.com/product/dodge-2...-truck-bumper/

Rear Bumper
I would like to replace the rear bumper while we are at it and then re-sell the existing bumper off the truck. Here is the unit I am currently considering.
https://dv8offroad.com/collections/d...ducts/rbdr2-01

Wheels
From my conversation with FabFours, and offset between 0 and -51 will work for the planned size (38x15.50 20). As of right now, I am looking at the Black Rhino wheels. I am leaning toward Armor, Arsenal, or Raze style.
https://www.blackrhinowheels.com/tru...0Gloss%20Black

The wheel type and style is really going to depend on the ultimate paint color / scheme.

Plus, I will be upgrading the radiator, trans cooler, and intercooler. If enough money leftover, I may even upgrade the CP3 and injectors.

Update:
The build is finally going to start this week. We were waiting on a frame and ordering all the parts. The build should be completed by 21-JUNE.

I will post updates and pics as soon as able.
