OEM Severe Duty fuel filter kit

ok, so im coming up on 15k and time to change my fuel filter. My truck has the FS2 factory setup (not sure if that was an upgrade or not), I use 5mic FS43258 (cross reference to Mopar68061634AA) filter in it now. Im thinking now would be a good time to upgrade.

I was original planing on the Throttle-Up Industries, filter but I was looking around and I ran across the OEM Severe Duty kit (68083823AB) for around $50-60 at various places. Seems like a solid setup.

Im Looking for feedback on how this kit works.
Does anyone run a setup like this?
Will that accept a good CAT spin on filter?
I don't need the wire harness stuff right?

Looks like part number 68083823AB is just the filter element. The complete kit is 68083853AB.

The wire harness in the kit looks like it is for a WIF sensor and fuel heater. I couldn't find instruction to verify though.

Well Searching for the right part number turned up better google! thanks that helps a lot. I now see the entire "kits" for sale, still around $50. Reading up on it, I kinda like it. Nice factory mounting is cool, I don't see a lot of reason to not go with it at the price.

Does the stock filter can not have a heater? (I don't really need one in So Cal, soon to be Texas).

I also think its a great price just to get a spin on under the truck. Even if I go to a CAT and Baldwin filter. Does anyone know if it uses standard threads?

It is kinda putting a better filter upstream of the "ok" OEM FS2... the GPD kit puts the 2 mic filter After the stock, so thats kinda cool, makes more sense that way.

its kinda weird putting a good low micron filter in FRONT of the stocker.. unless you plan on deleting the stocker. The GDP MK-2 put the 2 mic between the stock and the IP. Making them a true filtrations "system"... over $200, but might be a better option.

For the price, I'm really tempted to get one too. The price of the kits isn't all that much more than the cost of a fuel filter.

Yea I had found another thread talking about theft in the 5.9 section. I guess its 1-14 threads so, really its just a nice mount and base for any spin-on we want, comes with all the hardware too. I don't even think I would hook up the fuel heater/WIF harness.

That being said, I found some good support for the FS2, its is a dual filter, down to 5 mic, lasts 15k. I found a few people that have put over 150k on them and they claim no injection problems sooo... maybe its just fine.

I have the severe duty filter setup. I installed this to help protect the system from moisture. It has a heated filter head and WIF sensor. The filter itself is more of a water separator with only 25 micron filtering. I had a Dodge technician (who does work on the side) put this on for me. I remember he had to take it to the dealership and hook it up to WiTech to enable the second WIF sensor on the auxillary filter setup.
I also had him do the tank vent upgrade while he was working on the truck as the fuel tank had to be taken down.
The kit seems to be well put together and the filter by the engine does stay noticeably cleaner.

Note: There is one glaring problem with this system as you are limited on the filter selection. The thread is metric M16 x 1.5. The Mopar can be tough to find. In my internet research I think there are other alternatives but of course these are just as expensive.

Hastings FF1289
Wix 10175

Also in the documents attached to this thread is some other information on switching the filter head out to a Fleetgard filter head with the standard 14 x 1 thread. I may do this in the future depending on filter availability and price of the OEM or alternates. Keep in mind this is information I have searched out for my future reference and cannot validate the accuracy.

Hmm, that’s pretty lame, I have no interest in adding something like that if its only 25mic. But 50$ might be worth it just for the bracket, I found that thread too talking about the head swap for a standard filter threads.
