EGR Delete / Tuner

I recently started the EGR cleaning service with the kit from Geno's garage. New CCV, gaskets, all that.

I'm halfway through the project. The EGR cooler, servo, and iron butterfly are all off. I was planning to re-install everything but now that my state is ending emissions testing and does not require testing for all diesels 2007 and up, I've decided to do the EGR delete since most of the work is done. Woo hoo!

HOWEVER, an article over at Carbonite Cummins says that disconnection of the egr cooler/servo WILL throw my truck in limp mode. http://www.carbonitecummins.com/Docu...R%20Delete.pdf So, it looks like I need a tuner if I want to be able to drive my truck. I was planning to drive around with the CEL on for a while, but a tuner now looks necessary.

I'm perfectly content with stock horsepower. What tuner will get the job done? If it matters, I'm leaving the DPF on. I just want a EGR delete tune.

Maybe tell us what year your truck is? If yours is a third gen, or a 2010 you will get away with just a CEL for having the EGR unplugged.
You will need custom tuning if you leave the DPF in place and want EGR ignored without a CEL

Oops. 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 megacab 6.7L.

The EGR cooler and servo have been removed. I put the EGR valve back on after cleaning, but will obviously take it off when I put the EGR delete kit on.

The article I linked to says the truck will go into limp mode without the EGR cooler/servo, which is why I asked advice for what tuners to get.

I can't attest to the cooler servo/limp mode part as I've not tried it. BUT you're going to pay out the nose for a custom tune that will delete/disable the egr system alone.
Then when you decide to delete you'll have to pay for another custom tune to do the full deletes.

The simplest and cheapest thing you can do is to fabricate a thin block off plate (steel preferably) to go between the egr cooler and exhaust manifold, reinstall the cooler and plug in the servo.
No egr gas flow and no limp mode.

You can then remove the egr valve and install that block off plate and run as long as you like until you delete.

The choice of tuners and/or custom tuning at that time will depend on what you want out of the tune.

Yah I know, I didn't answer your question either.

To delete just the egr system and continue using the exhaust system will require customers tuning.
You can look into EFI and/or MM3 custom tuning for that

You could try sourcing an old H&S tuner. I cant remember which model does it but one of them allows you to delete the egr system or the exhaust system or both.
H&S tuners are no longer supported so it's not the route I'd recommend.

I recommend the MM3 from DRD. It's not cheap but customer service/tuning is second to none IMO.

I already bought a tuner from PPEI. It will be here Tuesday. I ended up deleting the DPF along with the EGR. :-)
