Running a lil warm

I just put a 190 degree thermostat in because it was going up into the 225 range and it still didn’t help so I wonder how much a coolant bypass would help

Check all your coolers up front. Make sure they free of any oil, grime and debris. You also make have gotten a faulty thermostat.

You donít need a coolant bypass. If itís getting to 225 easily there is a problem. 190 is stock on theaters trucks isnít it? My 08 is a 190.

Oil buildup isnít terrible yet common on theses trucks since the open breather isnít on the front like a 5.9. But certainly could be really dirty. A good hose cleaning should do the trick.

Iíd be looking at the water pump first, pull the belt, any play in the bearing/pull and itís going out.

How about the fan and clutch? Is your fan flipping to 1:1 properly?

What condition is it when itís gets that hot?

I was thinking that at first too, but really a little air will make it run 225? The breather is really to get all the air out of the EGR, thats why its not on other EGless 5.9/67 engines.

@Cumnut2009 needs to tell us what he's doing with the truck to get it to 225. If its getting to 225 easily then something big is wrong like a pump, fan clutch, or bad coolant (super old or oil in it). I have pulled my loaded 5th wheel up grades going into AZ, holding 70+ for extended periods of time and it doesnt overheat, its pretty hard to overheat these trucks so I don't think its gonna be something silly.

Also, if you get 225+ you risking blowing a HQ or worse if you keep driving it like that.
