It depends on the part of the state in which the vehicle is registered. I pretty sure that Prince William, Fairfax & Alexandria areas (Northern Va near DC)require emissions testing. I live about 70 miles west of DC and do not have to have the emissions tested just a yearly safety inspection. Hope this helps.

I have heard that folks with stacks are getting pulled over and harassed/ticketed, at least in the north west part of the state. But on the flip side I see quite a few trucks with stacks. It's a crap shoot.
The letter of the law states the exaust has to be just like it came from the factory.
I used to own a "79" chevy van the previous owner had put duals on with no cat. It came from the factory with a cat. One guy I talked to woudn't even pass it with a cat the same size as the origonal on each side. You have to find a good(read someone with common sense) inspecter and stick with him!

I bought my truck in Il then moved back down here to Norfolk and plated/registered here in VA. I had to have the safty inspection done. Lights, brakes, tires, ect... I dont have the muffler on mine either. Never said a word to me and that was at a Dodge dealer.

I originally took it to one back home but it wasnt right when I got back here so I took it to Mr. transmission and they are fixin it. so I should have it back in the next week or so then I have to go get the inspection done on it so I can drive it.
