my new valair full feramic is in
Well dan just wanted to let you know that i love the clutch. it is way grabby which is what i was told to expect, its either in or out. i also had to replace my slave cylinder during the install but we all know that s**t happens and that was in no way valairs fault. I got it back from the tranny shop last friday and ive only put 100 miles on it but man do i like it. I also got the hd upgrade but have not experienced any noises from the clutch like i thought i would, not sure why. i am having trouble starting off from a dead stop in 2nd gear. it either starts hopping or i have to bark tires a little in order to start off in 2nd, and it sucks starting in 1st because its geared so low. will it get better starting off in 2nd gear once it gets broken in? just had a couple of questions, love the product and especially the price, and how nice you all were to chit chat with me for 2 months while i made my mind up.

it should get better after some break in, you will have to learn to drive your truck again and get used to the quick engagement of the clutch, getting the rpm's up a little at take off will help, shouldnt have to bark the tires, check your mounts and carrier bearing. let me know if there's anything else you need.

k thanks for the quick response. also i do nothing but city driving here in lexington kentucky to and from work in stop and go traffic, how long will this clutch take to break in? i dont drive more than 150 miles a week but its all city driving, will that help break it in quicker or just make it weaker?

SHould help it break in quicker. Mine was a lil grabby at first but changed after about 700 miles but I dont do much city driving with mine is reason it took a little longer to break in.

so i cant get on it hard for the first 500 miles or so?if i do will it hurt something.

yes you could damage something if it isn't seated in yet,(could burn the clutch up or hot spot the flywheel) you see no metals are completley flat therefore it takes a little time or wear in or to fully seat, exspecially when your talking Feramic material which is really hard, not like a stock clutch with softer organic facings. if it hasnet slipped you should be ok,

i actually was a really bad boy last night. my clutch like i said only has like 80 miles or so on it now ( all city driving, but still). some guy pulls up to me in some older subaru and revs his engine and i bumped up my edge to 5x5. i didnt do a boosted 3rd gear launch but just took off hard in 2x4 2nd gear and smoked him, clutch didnt slip one time through 2nd all the way up to 5th. i got done and prayed that i didnt f*** anything up but glad i didnt have my slippin clutch anymore either.. soo far im a very satisfied customer, hopefully shes not messed up just yet.

Hey Dan, Got my ceramic in yesterday with the help of FordKiller43. Awsome product. 2nd gear is a little jumpy but no worse than the warped factory clutch(2nd and 3rd gear burnouts and launches). I can't hear any chatter from the HD hub either. I was really expecting the engagement to be alot rougher than it is. Took all of 20 miles to re-learn the truck and I'm very happy with it and you can't beat the price. Vern

It was a great install and Im lookin forward to doin my auto to manual swap with my new 13" valair ceramic! I am hoping VernCalhoun, 1stGen545, and I can have this swap done by April 12th for the Dyno event in Buda!
