Scariest towing situation
I know everybody who tows often has had a scary situation occur at the wrong time. Lets hear em fella's. My scariest was problem when the 1750lb. bull in the gooseneck decided to dance. This happened when before we got the cummins. We were going about 55 and he just decided to play with us. This pulled the truck all over the road. We ended up getting him home, after several times of pulling over. Needless to say the cummins has more than enough torque to pull him without mishap

Our scariest towing situations have been weather related with the 5th wheel - hit a BAD unexpected snow storm about 100 miles north of Winnemucca Nev on our way to Payette Idaho to visit my folks - 2WD truck, narrow 2 lane road with NO shoulder or place to pull off and wait it out, or visibility - all we could do was tip-toe along until we got thru it...

When I was about 11 my dad sent me down the highway with the crewcab and 24' gooseneck stock trailer to make sure some gates were open ahead of the cows. No problems till I pulled off the highway to turn around, when I came back up on to the road the trailer was still at 45* angle to the truck and down off the side of the road. You guessed it, wiped out the bedside. We straightened it out the best we could, and then it finally met it's match when we were using the truck as a gate in place of a squeeze chute. More than one cow crawled right up in the bed and then sort of fell out the other side tearing that bedside pretty much off. New flatbed after that. Matt

I forgot the drawbar pin while towing the 6500# TT, that was "interesting".

Happened last year, was on the way to the Pennsylvania World Horse Show. Was hauling only 3 horses at the time. on the PA turnpike hit a bad unexpected snow storm also. ended up dumping about 12"'s on us. It started snowing bad right before dark, roads got bad FAST. Well it finally got dark and realized i could not see ANYTHING. could not tell where there was a berm, or any safe place to pull off. I had to use everyone elses headlighs to see where i was going and to use the rumble strips on the road to stay on. Finally about another 40 miles down the road found a place to pull off and found about 10+ inches of snow, ice, and slush built up on my headlights. With the price of the horses in the back, that was probably the scariest... Eric

Didn't happen to me towing, but the first time I unloaded equipment the truck, trailer and track hoe all started down the customers driveway like a big sled.Got the machine back over the axels of the trailer and she stoped with the front tire barely tipping a landscape brick around a flower bed. First and last time that ever happened. Also lost a 24" auger while loading it . It rolled half a block crossong a road and resting against an atm in the lot next to our rental building. Those are the times you look around to see how many people just saw you make an beepbeepbeep of yourself. I had some close calls with my old dodge 1500 gas , but that don't count cause that truck was way over loaded and had no brake controler.

Well, this is kind of dumb. I was heading to Corpus with an 18' dovetail carhauler (tag), got the car, headed back. We had a blowout on the driver's side 2nd axle of the trailer. Stopped, checked it out, It shot peices of steel wire into the front tire of the trailer. I say "screw it" and keep on going since we were 60m from where we needed to be. It was fun watching people honk at us and flash their lights when the back tire caught on fire. Nothing could be done. We ended up making it into town with 2 dead rims that "uncapped" themselves. I.e. the inner surface of the rim (donut?) i.e. () outside of it peeled itself from the hub of the rim. weee.

Mine was about 11 years ago. My son and I were the crew for a local Deputy Sheriff that raced at a circle track about 45 miles from home. I towed the car up and back each week. During the race, he got into the wall and messed the car up real bad. They brought it into the pits on the hook and we loaded the car on the trailer backwards. I thought it was far enough forward to put some weight on the tongue but that turned out to be not true. When we started home, I could tell the front of the trailer was light but figured it would be OK since we weren't going far. Well, I hit a dip in the road going about 60 and thought it was a goner! Started wipping real bad and I was trying to hold on to the wheel and grab the electric brake unit at the same time. Finally got it settled down. This was with the Ford I had before the Dodge but I don't think itwould have made much difference! Now I make sure there is at least a couple of hunded pounds on the tongue!

I had a similar experience as Paccool riding with a friend pulling his derby car. He had an 80s 3/4 Chevy jacked up and had the car on the trailer backwards. We made it about a 1/2 mile when we hit a bump and that trailer started whipping back and forth. Got so bad going back and forth we ran one other vehicle off the road going across both lanes of traffic. Needless to say we both needed a change of underwear afterwards and we stopped and flipped the car around. 2nd on happened here recently (Aug.) pulling my gooseneck stock trailer in the rain. My daughter was riding with me and I was talking to her when the truck hit a slick spot or hydroplained. I overreacted with the brakes and that in combination with the el cheapo brake controler taking a dive that day and unknown wire problems in the plug sent the truck whipping around into the front drivers side of the trailer. Smashed my door and side of the cab in and pushed us across the other lane into the ditch before we slid to a stop. Nathan
