well here is mine. I haul for a living so this is a pretty bad on as I have over 200000 miles on with 1 tons or so pulling goosenecks. The worst I had was last summer in mankato mn. Comming down a really big hill loaded with about 15k on the trailer that weighs 9500. I was consious of the hill and load so I was doing about 15mph in 1st gear and basically riding the brakes all the way to keep her slow. About 1 block from the bottom of the hill I noticed cars crossing my path not stopping. I didn't have enough notice from the light that it was red. (30 feet from the light you cant see it from the road, big tree branch in the way) As I got to the cross walk I saw out of the corner of my eye two things red. The light and the truck going 30-40mph coming thru the intersection. I piled on the brakes for all my might locked the truck and trailer up leaving a huge black strech into the intersection. The guy that was in the other truck didn't see me untill he was about 10 feet from my door and slammed on his brakes and swerved, spinning infront of me and ending up on the sidewalk facing me. He got out and went bolistic. (I don't blame him he had the right of way) But we left our vehicles in the intersection and walked back and he could see that there was no way I could have ever seen him or the light even going 15mph. The only way this light was effective is for the people who live arround there and know it is there. I emediatley called the city hall and demanded that the maintence guys come down "now" to trim the tree or I would sue the city. We both walked away unhurt and no damage was done to either vehicle but my heart didn't start beating utill I had the load unloaded 2 miles away! I told my dispatcher that no way in hockey sticks will there ever be more than 10k on my trailer as long as I live..... He wasn't happy but understood after hearing this story!!

mine was also stupid and way over weight for the trailer.

rented some 8'x2' concrete forms to use on a job i was doing at the time, they delivered them on a flatbed with a crane, i used them and then decided to keep them awhile longer but then i had to deliver them back which was 90 miles away.
loaded them up and thought i had them secured with chains and binders as well as cum-a-longs. the trailer was overwieght, tires were bulging but i HAD to get them back in one trip ....so anyways i am driving down the road and little did i know there was road construction and there was a detour. instead of 4 lane road it was into single lane each way and VERY rough....in a 20 mile stretch i ended up dumping something like 30 forms on the roadway, managing to not hit any other cars in the process but had to reload most all the forms again and again. if you guys have ever handled concrete forms they can weigh between 150-200lbs each

it was scary but yet comical when i look back on it now and thank god nothing worse happened

I got another one!!

A couple of years ago, my mother in law gave us an old pickup, but I had to truck it down here from Worland Wyoming. After getting through the wind river canyon uneventfully, I stopped off at the famous Whitmore house only to find he wasn't home. I didn't even look at the trailer, and drove down the street to the gas staion to fill up. Upon further inspection, I discovered the truck had come completely unstrapped.

That sacred the heck out of me, wondering how many people I could have killed if it came off the trailer in the canyon. I've since learned to keep all boomers, ratchets, or whatever on the drivers side where I can see them in the mirror.

Matt

After renting the largest wood chipper in town, started to drive home. At the first intersection went over a small hump in the road and the chipper came off the hitch.
BANG, we knew immediatley what had happened. It had burned through one of the safety chains and had about 1/16th of an inch left before the 2nd broke. It is amazing how much weight you can lift when your adrenaline starts pumping. My dad and I picked it up right off the road and re-attatched it to the hitch.
Lesson Learned: never let the rental shop grunt attatch you load to your truck while you are paying inside.:fist:
From that point on I have to personally hook everything up to my truck to ensure it is hooked up properly.:thumbsup

Hauling a backhoe up north to dig a septic tank at the cabin. Using a triple axle trailer. Cruising about 70, my buddy was with me and it was one of those long quiet moments between us, anyway, my buddy says, " hey look, somebody lost a tire...." I look over and sure enough, a tire was passing me in the oncoming lane. I started laughing and said "sure enough, someone did lose a tire". I started looking in my rear view and all around to see who lost it. Then I realized, we were the only ones on the road. I looked at my buddy and said" hell, thats our tire!" I never did see that tire stop. It finally went off the road and kept going till it wasnt visible to the naked eye, busted through a couple barb wire fences. It was funny as heck. Luckily, we were able to keep going.

Not very scary, but its the best I could do. My towing experiences usually go uneventful. Knock on wood.

Speaking of loosing a tire, a long time ago, I was south bound on Highway 61 on the north shore of Lake Superior with a load of lumber and just crossed the Cook/Lake county line. I hit a bump and thought the tranny jumped out of gear (13 speed). I reached over and felt the shifter and it was where it was supposed to be. I looked in the left mirror and saw sparks (it was at night) by the left rear drive axle. I stopped and looked and BOTH tires were gone. I walked back to where I could see some tracks in the snow on the right side of the road and started following the tracks. I should tell you I was doing about 60mph when this happened and the tires were 10X22.5 BUDD wheels. I followed the tracks for about 50 feet and they dissapeared. A friend of mine showed up and we started really looking. We saw some fresh branches on the snow and looked up. About 9 feet in the air you could see where the tires cut a swath through the brush. Another 100 feet and we finally found the tires. It turns out that the tires were pulled and re-installed (I can't remember why) and they were slightly loose and that caused all the studs to shear off. Funny thing was, I never even felt the truck wiggle.

8 and a half ft slide in camper 2200lbs and a 21 ft travel trailer. 7 lanes into 2 to get over the George Washington bridge New York City, 5pm on a friday. All I will say is I'm glad I left the hand guns home. When I did get to CT it was definitely margarita time. The only scary thing is that I wanted to shot most of those people in the A$$. With that set up they acted like they did'nt see me. Trucking in the Sand Box does'nt count.

Heck yes...I know what you mean. I saw that tire cut thru 2 barbwire fences like a hot knife thru butter. I would not want to be standing in front of that thing.

Best one I've got was hauling my parents 11-1/2' camper on my '86 Chev SRW 1-ton 4X4 with 4" lift and 36" tires. I was taking an exit off I-5 in Eugene headed for the coast and was going a little fast. Friend behind me and I were in contact with our CB's. I knew it didn't feel good then he tells me I lifted the inside rear tire almost a foot

With the price of the horses in the back, that was probably the scariest...

Not to mention how bad PA. roads are to begin with! That is scary .When you live in Pa you learn how to dodge potholes or repair rims and tires.
